Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
My husband was very skeptical (and not a fan) of chili when I said it was for supper. This recipe has sold us both! This is my first time making chili and it was so good! I didn't have any chili mix on hand, so I used the Chili Seasoning II recipe from this website instead. Substitutions I made were: 1 can of black beans and 1 can of dk. red kidney beans; 1 can tomato sauce, 1 can Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies. (Ended up with LOTS of heat to this chili) Browned frozen meat on stovetop and tossed in crockpot to let it simmer for a couple of hours. Served with some french bread. Perfect for those cool winter evenings!

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
So good! I received a mini donut maker (Babycakes) for Christmas and have been looking for a good batter. This is going to be my new go-to recipe! Only change I made was to use 1/2 tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp cinnamon. So light and fluffy! Filled each cup about 2/3 full and waited for light to turn green. Made about 15 donuts. Didn't use butter/sugar coating. Delicious!

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2012
This was so tasty! We needed a vegetarian option for my brother at Thanksgiving and this worked out great! We subbed the chicken broth for vegetable broth and cut up big chunks of 'TX toast.' I put it in a casserole dish and baked in the oven rather than the turkey. Tasted even better as leftovers!

Day Before Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2012
LOVED this recipe! It was a hit at Thanksgiving. As other reviewers mentioned, it was reminiscent of a twice-baked potato. The flavor was excellent! I used yukon gold potatoes, cream cheese with chives and low-fat sour cream. Added pats of butter and some milk to crock pot and set it to low a couple of hours before dinner. This one is a keeper!

Fresh Fig Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2012
Loved the recipe! I've had a fig tree for years and wasn't sure what to do with them. So glad I found this recipe! As one review suggested, I added chocolate chips. Also cut down sugar to 3/4C and did 1/4tsp cinnamon and 1/4tsp cloves. Husband not big on cloves, may try to omit next time. Fig flavor very subtle, may try adding more figs on the next batch. Loved the texture, had no problems with the batter at all before adding figs. Made smaller spoonfuls and cut baking time to 11min. This is a keeper!

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2012
This is on our weekly rotation! I use some Tony's for a little extra spice and omit the salt and pepper. Husband loves it just as much as hamburgers!

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2012
Love this recipe! First time I made pork and it turned out fantastic. Great recipe for weeknights when you want an easy dinner. I only used a 2lb roast, but kept the amount of remaining ingredients the same. I left it in the crock pot on low heat for 8 hours and it turned out very tender. Delicious!

Buffalo Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2011
My husband LOVED this recipe! I made it the first time without adding any sort of sauce to it and it was a little bland. Tried a reviewer's suggestion of making a 'buffalo sauce' of butter and hot sauce and dipping the chicken before serving and it added the perfect amount of heat. Also substituted the 1T of water for hot sauce. Definitely a 'keeper' in my house!

Pear Pie III

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2011
Great recipe!! I have a pear tree and have been trying to figure out what to do with the fruit. To soften the pears, I first diced them up and simmered them with a 1/2C of water on the stovetop. Once softened, I followed the recipe. Just a couple of substitutions as suggested by previous reviews: 1/3C butter (margarine) and 1/3C sugar. Also did 1/2T of almond extract and 1/2T vanilla and added some ground cinnamon. Loved it!!!
