Mardi Gras Party Finally Ended Yesterday

Mardi Gras is close to my heart because my favorite Uncle lives in Thibodaux, Louisiana. As a child I received a giant box the week following Mardi Gras full of beads and candy. Why was he my favorite Uncle? He owns a portion of the Necco Candy company. They are the ones that make the valentines day candy hearts. As I kid that made him famous in my eyes so I was amazed by everything about him. Ever since I have been in awe of the food, parties, people and candy that originates from Louisiana. lol.

To celebrate Mardi Gras this year and to make it as special for my girls as it was for me, we made real, true gumbo and a King Cake. The girls had a blast making it and eating it was great too! We finished the gumbo the second day and the King Cake didn't last long either!

The recipes I used were King Cake and Husband's Grandmother's Shrimp Gumbo (the gumbo was a previously faceless recipe and definately deserved a photo). The King Cake recipe looked appealing and unique to me because the filling is not the norm for a King Cake. It turned our really well and the lemon makes it taste wonderfully. The only thing I did differedntly was add toasted pecans to the filling and I think it was a welcomed addition to the recipe. The gumbo recipe was pretty easy to make and absolutely easy to follow and it was too spicy but was extremely flavorful and chunky. This recipe I followed as if I was repeating a science experiment.

All was wonderful and the holiday was great for the whole family here at home but I don't think I would ever step foot in the Mardi Gras street party ever.

How was your Mardi Gras this year?

Cheers!

I suppose it would be inappropriate for me to propose to you. I'd get in big trouble as I've been prone to propose to several women in AR over the years....wise women all of them...they've ignored me! But MY GOODNESS! Your hubby's grandmother's gumbo looks like a honeymoon unto itself! Oh My GOODNESS! Such abuse all of you perpetrate upon me day after day...all this wonderful food and I'm on the other side of the Atlantic eating jellied eels and periwinkles! Oh the inhumanity of it all!
