Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2007
Great bread!!! I have tried many whole wheat bread recipes and they usually turn out very dense and not good. This was wonderful toasted with cream cheese or accompanying soup. I am making a loaf for a friend now!!!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2007
These pancakes were great. I was just looking for good flax recipes and found this. One of my kids liked it, one didn't (probably because it was different than what he is used to). I am a pancake fanatic (especially with chocolate chips) and really enjoyed them. I was also concerned with the consistency of the batter, but it turned out alright! Also, I used cake flour instead of the pastry and it turned out fine! Thanks so much!

Quinoa Side Dish

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2007
very good healthy grain alternative - will make a fan out of most who try it. I used dried thyme and possibly too much at that - next time would try fresh - great!

Pizzelles II

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2007
THis is a wonderful recipe for crisper pizzelles. I prefer this texture to the softer kind - it doesn't get any better. I use butter and also sift - it makes a difference in the texture for sure. You could also put in a bit more anise. grazie!

Ciabatta Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
wow! really good! It was extremely hard to work with, and I thought that there was no way that it would turn out... but when I took it out of the oven I was optimistic and when I sliced it I knew that it was a keeper! thanks so much - it is better than my grocery store!!!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
excellent! I used the suggestion of using butter-flavor Crisco and they were a big hit! - of course the chocolate chips that I added helped!...A great recipe to use when you have no buttermilk

Herbed Beef in Salt Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
I thought that this was a moist, cool way to cook beef, and I liked the taste it gave. I only gave it 3 stars because I thought that it was very salty - at least the outside of the meat was, where the salt crust was and some particles remained. I love salt, so it worked out well for me, but I noticed that it was too salty for other people. If I made it again, it would only be for me and my salt-worshipping friends!!!!

Fabulous Fried Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2006
I thought that this was a great way to cook cabbage - a great way to get my husband to love it also. I used bacon grease (gasp!) initally with with chicken broth (and added butter at the end! - double gasp!) but it made for a vary tasty side dish, and if that is how I get my family to eat it, so be it!I would love to know what "true" fried cabbage is, since other reviewers said that it is not this same recipe. Any input?

Grilled Lemon Herb Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2006
I made this recipe with both pork and chicken. Excellent. actually, the time that I made it with chicken I had to use more lime juice than lemon because I ran out of lemon. Even better. I more than doubled the recipe to marinate though, it did not seem enough. Wonderful!

Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2006
It was not bad as written (I think the suggestion to invert the amounts of soy and balsamic was NOT an alternative - I tried it both ways) but not great. I will be making asparagus another way, sorry!

Quick Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2006
I thought that this recipe was an odd choice as an entree as written. It seemed really soupy and awkward as a main course.I definately recommend putting it over rice or egg noodles, and if so, keep the chicken in bigger pieces so it seem like a dinner and not a lunch. I also added a splash of sherry. That being said, I thought that it had a great taste and strangely enough, put it over mashed potatoes and thought that it was perfect comfort food. I was sad when the leftovers were gone.

Pretzel Coated Fried Fish

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2005
This was a great way to coat fish!! It turned out great! All I had to do was tell my kids that it had pretzels on it and they were all for it! I added a bit more seasoning and ended up crushing a little more than I had initially. I thought that it was super!

Japanese Onion Soup

I don't know what I did, but mine did not turn out like the restaurant versions. I was very sad. I love this soup and hoped that I had the magic ticket. I did not.

Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
This was a good way to cook pork loin, which never seems to turn out for me too well. I, too, used a meat thermometer and lucky that I did. My roast, which was even bigger than the 2# one called for, took much less than 2 hours. I think that it would have turned out dry had I kept it in longer. It was a good taste, even though mine was pre-seasoned (it came from Costco).

Cabbage on the Grill

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2005
I took some of the reviewer's suggestions (bacon grease, kosher salt, butter) and thought that this was great. If you don't do some upgrades it can taste a little bland. I couldn't stop eating it the first time that I made it.
