Candied Carrots

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2015
Unable to rate recipe as it is written above because I made changes based on the existing reviews. I used 1 TBSP of butter instead of 2 TBSP so that glaze would be thicker. I also cut back on the sugar (to 2 TBSP) and added 1 TBSP of honey due to comments about the sweetness of the dish and added a pinch of ginger as suggested by other reviewer. I also added about a 1/2 tsp of lemon juice. The sweetness was spot-on. Couldn't stop eating them

Fresh Fig Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2013
My husband loves fresh figs but I just can't bring myself to eat a fresh fig. At any rate, my MIL brought my husband some figs and I found this recipe today. I made the cake per the recipe but baked it in 9 in round pans until the toothpick came out clean. I doubled the fig filling but didn't quite use it all. This cake was good a nd moist. Topped it with a dollop of whipped cream which lightened it. Will definitely make again

Chef John's Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
This was my first attempt at making scones. Scones that I have tried in the past from a local bakery were dry and dense so I was not a fan of scones. These scones were light and with just the right amount of sweetness. My son who is the greatest critic of my baked goods said that they were "really good". I used dried cranberries because I didn't have currants. Will definitely make again!

Tomato Pie II

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2012
Made this today using a wheat flour crust. Used a combo of sharp cheddar and fontina cheese and put a thin layer of cheese on the crust before layering the tomatoes. I also added some chopped scallions. Used half mayo and half sour cream. The sour cream added a nice tanginess. My husband loved it and even my 3 year ate it. Will definitely make again.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
This delicious and easy to make. I cut back on the cayenne pepper because I thought a 1/4 tsp might make it a bit too spicy for the kids. I added about 1/8 tsp and it still had a little bite but was just right. Will make again

Chocolate Peanut Butter Marble Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
Oh my goodness. If you are a peanut butter and chocolate lover, this is the cake for you. I followed the recipe with a couple of changes based on previous reviews. I used a cup of peanut butter for the chips and added a cup of semisweet chocolate chips to batter. I cooked it in a heavy bundt pan for 50 mins. Cake is so moist. I used the satiny chocolate glaze to which I added 1/4 cup peanut butter. It is pretty rich with these changes but oh so good.

Southern Grits Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
Made this for my family and they loved it. I have small children so cut recipe in half. I used half the number of eggs rec'd. Season the grits as you usually would. Had some extra sharp white cheddar left over from Christmas and added some of that as well along with some dry mustard.

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
This was great. It will replace my old mac n chese recipe. made it for Christmas and the whole family loved it. Make sure you add salt to the water you use to boil the noodles. Did not have 2 cans of evaporated milk so used one can of evaporated milk and 12 oz of heavy cream, which i think I will continue to do
