Greeting AR friends, been awhile since I've been here. I kind of forgot about the blog scene, but it's a really cool way to record what you've done and save it for later.
So the weather is definitely warming up here in the SF Bay area. Better than that, all kinds of fresh veggies are showing up in stores and farmers markets. Yesterday I saw my first bunch of local vine ripened tomatoes! Yeah ok, they were dwarf tomatoes greenhouse
grown, but still fresh and flavorful. Made a simple crushed tomato sauce last night with butter that I'll post later before I forget what I did. And Saturday, made my first grilled paella. That is, paella cooked outside on an open fire or charcoal grill. I
just love cooking my "weber" paella, this one was a seafood paella with shrimp stock. Tonight is going to be one of my wife's favorites, Michael Chiarello's lemon braised artichokes over fettuccine with the chokes that we also bought at the farmers market.
My wife was raised in Half Moon Bay, an artichoke stronghold for sure.
So what are your firsts of the year? Winter is hopefully behind us (most of us?). I'm excited to hear what people are up to. I love cooking fresh and now's the time to start after a long lull.
