I was really excited about this recipe since it got so many great reviews. Following the advice of many reviewers, I dropped the cloves to 1/2 tsp, added 1 tsp of allspice, and bumped the cinnamon up to 2 tsp. I also added 1 tsp of vanilla. The batter was thick and made one large cake and one small loaf. Well, I just tried the loaf (it's been cooling on my deck for about 45 minutes, one advantage of a MN winter) and...it tastes like pumpkin bread would taste if I sprayed Pumpkin Spice Glade air freshener all over it. Strong taste of cloves and allspice, can't even taste the pumpkin. I can't imagine what using the cloves as directed tastes like. Most of the pumpkin breads I've had taste like pumpkin pie, only bread, and that's what I was hoping for. This is not it. I dunno, maybe it'll be better in the morning, but right now I'm not impressed. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because it did have a very nice texture and baked beautifully. Too bad I can't eat it.
