Black Bean Hummus

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2003
I made this hummus with black beans at first and it turned out good. However, when I substituted black beans with garbanzo beans - it turned out even better! You will need to use more liquid with garbanzo beans, though.

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2002
I found it average. Soft, but I expected more, given the ingredients. I would probably do it again, but not soon.

Crab Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2002
Way too greasy. I did not care much for it. My husband found it tasty, though, but he said that amont of butter can be easily reduced by half. None of us are usually worried about our fat intake, but this had too much to taste good.

-A-Leekie Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2002
I made it with brown rice instead of barley and it turned out wonderful. I also used only the tender part of two leeks instead of one full leek. Healthy and tasty. Good one-dish meal to eat at home or to take to work.

Jewish Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2002
I made some alterations, though. First, I left out the wallnuts to make it kids-friendly. I also spread the dough in two pans - as described in a recipe in one, and a thin layer in the other. Both had different baking times. One turned out soft and moist and the other was more crunchy, but both were very good. I served some confectioners sugar mixed with cinnamon on the side and this was a very popular topping. Everyone loved the treat. I will definitely make it again.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2002
Very nice. I also put 1/2 cup less of the white sugar and they turned just right. My two-year old enjoyed making and eating them too. I pressed the dough on the rolling board and let my daughter cut it with a biscuit cutter. I was very surprised, though, when we've got more then 50 cookies, using the recipe scaled for 24... We gave away some to my little one's daycare and some to her aunt and her gradma. Everyone said they were good!

Chicken Perkelt

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2002
Tasty, yet very quick and simple to make. Chicken is very soft and juicy. Even my two year old daughter loved it. I would try to find a way to make it with more gravy, though. It was barely enough to put on the rice.
