French Leek Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2012
Flavor was great, but it didn't set firmly like a quiche. I'm hoping refrigerating the leftovers overnight may firm it up. I think next time I'll add eggs to make it firm. Other than the soupy texture, it had outstanding flavor.

Rosemary Braised Lamb Shanks

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
Delicious! I made a smaller batch and substituted sun-dried tomatoes (rehydrated) and used more carrots. Served it with rosemary bread to sop up the juice. Skipped chicken broth and only used beef broth and red wine.

Beet Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
Outstanding taste & texture! I roasted, peeled, diced and pureed fresh beets; about 5-6 were used of varying sizes. I added an additional 2 T. cocoa powder as others suggested. I added 1 t. of creme de cacao liquer because it's Christmastime and I felt festive! I made a hard chocolate glaze and again added 2 T. creme de cacao to the glaze. Let the cake sit overnight, had a "test slice" this morning, and was very pleased! It tastes dark chocolate-ty, and feels velvety in the mouth. Will bring some to a family dinner on Christmas Day.

German Sausage Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
I made this on a nippy night for supper and it was great. I used Chappell Hill Pecan Garlic Smoked Sausage and 1 T. Penzey's toasted granulated onion. Used chicken broth to boil the green cabbage & gold potatoes. Forgot to buy cheese at the store, so no cheese was added, and the recipe was still very tasty.

Waldorf Salad with Walnut Oil Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
I've been making this for some time now and it is one of my family's favorites. I use dried cranberries instead of raisins and Rome/Empire apples for Red Delicious, b/c I think Rome Apples taste better. Sometimes for a variation I add a small can of mandarin oranges for a change.
