Swedish Rye Bread

My husband likes this better than his old family recipe (don't tell them!) Delicious and easy. The rising times for me were a lot longer than indicated in the recipe but this turned out to be delicious flavorful bread. We'll make this often.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

We had this last night and followed the recipe exactly as written except we forgot to add the lemon before eating. It was delicious even with out the last squirt of lemon. Very rich - we served it with fresh sourdough bread.

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

My husband made this for a Mexican Themed potluck lunch where he works. There was one piece left by the end of the lunch! This is so easy to make and way too easy to eat - he went shopping yesterday and bought more dough and cream cheese so he can make it again soon.

Easy French Dip Sandwiches

This sandwich was delicious! My husband and I were totally amazed at the ease and the flavors. We both work full time and take care of a house and yard so we're always looking for something fast and tasty. Like a few other readers, I omitted the water from the consomme and added garlic powder and onion powder to it. Other that that we followed it exactly. Served deli macaroni salad on the side. Not the healthiest dinner but totally delicious for a once in awhile treat. This will go into our "quick to fix" file when we can't think of anything for dinner. Thanks for a great recipe!

Caramel Pound Cake

This turned out to be a beautiful pound cake. It was dense but moist . The glaze was a little grainy but I think I could work on it to make it more smooth. The presentation was stunning - I love this bundt pan which I got from Williams-Sonoma is a real show stopper. It's not the most delicious thing I ever ate but my co-workers gobbled it down and really seemed to like it. Thanks Judy!

Easy Refrigerator Pickles

Amazingly good! This is the first time I've ever tried a recipe like this but a friend of mine at work has tons of cukes so I thought I'd give a try. We are just now putting these into pint sized jars and the are SO GOOD! The only critique is that there needs to be a lot more "juice". Next time we will double the "juice" recipe. Thanks Catherine! Black-Eyed Pea Chowder

Amazingly good and simple to fix! We made this to have our lucky blacked eyed peas on new year's day and it's so good we've decided to add it to our regular winter rotation. It's THAT good. Brenda - thanks for a great recipe!

Gingerbread Boys

I'm not sure what I did wrong but this "dough" never really came together. It was just fine crumbles - sort of pie crust texture. I gathered it together with my hands and made it into a ball and chilled over night as suggested. When the dough finally got warm enough it just fell into big crumbly hunks. There was no way to roll it out and no way to correct it. All those good ingredients went into the trash. I did taste the dough though and that's why I gave it 2 stars - the flavor was wonderful but I don't think I'd take a chance on this recipe again.

Tasty Whole Wheat Bread

I'd give it ten stars if I could. This bread is so good and so easy to make. I wanted to make some whole wheat bread for a friend's 80 something mother - she was kind of craving it. This made two nice loaves a braid and several rolls. The mother "lurved" the bread and my friend even snuck a few slices. I took the braid to the office next day and 12 people managed to plow through a 12" loaf. I'm not a whole wheat fan but this bread has such incredible flavor, crumb, etc. I know I will make it again. Dark Chocolate Cake II

Sorry - I am usually able to give an excellent rating to the recipes I find here but not this time. Even though I greased my pans with Crisco and floured with cocoa powder this cake stuck to the pans like crazy! Both layers broke. I tasted a bit of it...nothing to write home about. This is for guests so into the trash it goes. I'll try another recipe.

Creamy Potato Casserole

Excellent casserole! The only thing I did different was to add more cheese. (You can never have too much cheese in our family.) I made this for seven adults and two small children and could have made another half a pan. After dinner only one serving was left - and I bet the leftovers from this would be wonderful. Italian Gravy

This recipe is very close to my former SIL who is Scilian. So very very good! I did buy pork shoulder steaks and trimmed some of the fat. I also browned it before adding to the pot. She used to get the sauce going for an hour or so and then refrigerate overnight and simmer all day the next day. This is WONDERFUl stuff! Thanks for the recipe.

Glazed Meatloaf II

Excellent meatloaf. I wanted to try something different than my usual recipe and I think this recipe just became my new "regular" recipe. Husband and I both enjoyed very much. There is just enough lemon to give a little tang but it's not overwhelming. Also, as someone else pointed out, it's not greasy at all. Thanks for the great recipe!

Shredded French Dip

Molten Chocolate Cakes With Sugar-Coated Raspberries

Absolutely the most incredible chocolate recipe I've ever made or eaten. Easy and so good. Had a few extra and stored them in the fridge. Just a warm for a few seconds in the microwave and they're still wonderful! What a great recipe! Thanks - will make this again and again!!

Guacamole

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

We had this soup last night for Sunday supper. Incredibly good! Instead of the two step process and changing pans we slow cooked the meat as called for in the recipe and then added the rest of the ingredients to the crockpot about two hours before it was supposed to be done and it worked out just fine. We did add more water to make it "soupier" and added a splash of red wine. With a glass of wine and a good sour dough bread a very yummy and filling meal! Thanks Margo!

Sloppy Joes II

Made these for Friday night supper when hubby was getting home late from being on the road. They are really super! I just kept adding a bit of moisture (tomato juice and water) and let them simmer. We liked them a lot and will make again. So much better than the packaged or jar mixes. Thanks Tamara!
