Artichoke Bites I

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
I was looking for this recipe, after having tried something similar at a bunco party. This is very good, not exactly what I was looking for but I am glad to have stumbled across this recipe. I would suggest chopping the artichokes pretty small. Some of the larger chunks i left in made it crumble a bit.

Angel Hair Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
This is especially good when made with ranch dressing made from the packet, it just seems to have more flavor that way. I added celery to it.

Garlic Prime Rib

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2003
This turned out really good. It was easy and flavorful. My first time cooking prime rib, so I can not compare it to any other recipe but i would definately use this one again.

Oven Barbecued Beef Brisket I

Reviewed: May 2, 2003
I messed this recipe up and it still came out wonderful! The only brisket I could find was a tiny little 2 pounder, and I misread the directions and cooked it an hour a lb and then sliced it, put on sauce, and cooked it another hour. But even with the additional cooking time it came out unbelievably tender and full of flavor. I did put some liquid smoke on the meat along with garlic salt and pepper. It was great, and we will definately make again.

Aussie Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2003
This is always a hit with my husband and kids. I have tried several variations on this recipe, and this is a very good one. This honey mustard sauce is definately definately excellent. It makes all the difference to use this sauce and not a bottled variety. I highly recommend flattening the chicken, tonight when I made it I was in a hurry and skipped that step but it actually ended up taking me longer due to the extra cooking time needed for the chicken. I make extra mushrooms for me and my husband, and just leave them off the kids. Kind of a lot of steps, pans and calories, so this is a once in awhile treat for us. Very good recipe, thank you Rebecca.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2003
These turned out very nice, and went over well at Easter dinner today. Kids and adults ate seconds. I did have to leave out the onions to please all the picky eaters in the family, and I really think they would have tasted good in this. The only thing I will change is next time I am going to put more cheese in it.

Marian's Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2003
I feel bad writing the first negative review on this dish. I took this to Easter dinner today, and no one really ate more than a polite spoonful. It was very sweet, and rich. It wasnt bad, just not my cup of tea I guess.

Coconut Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2003
Super easy and this tasted great. My 8 year old son made this to take to Easter dinner, and it was a hit. We used a graham cracker crust and I messed up and bought a 3.5 oz size box of pudding so I adjusted the milk to 1 cup and it still came out just right.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2003
These are soooo good. They came out just right, a little bit soft and not thin and crispy, but definately firm enough. They are also not too sweet, which is a plus because once they are frosted they are perfect. I wanted to leave the first batch in just a little longer, because looking at them they didnt seem exactly done. But im glad I took them out at 6 minutes, because when they cooled they were hardened up to just the right texture. Thanks Jill! Wonderful cookies that I am sure I will be making every holiday.

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2003
We really liked this recipe a lot. Usually recipes fall into either kid recipes or adult recipes around our house. So I love it when we find something the whole family likes. I used boneless skinless breasts that I cut up into strips. Mine turned out a little on the dry side, but thats because I could see the sauce was starting to carmelize, and I decided to leave it in long enough for that to happen. Maybe I will cut my strips just a little larger next time, as we dont really like wings all that much. Delicious flavor though, and very very easy.

Polish Reuben Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2003
Another recipe my husband loved. In fact, im sitting here typing this review while he is eating his third helping. Polish sausage was on sale, and I had a bunch of it. He loves Reubens, and I love trying new and unusual recipes (read weird... this struck me as weird, but in a good way! LOL) So I just had to try it. My kids liked the top few layers, but avoided the saurkraut.

BLT Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2003
Ok, I was totally dubious to try this recipe, even with all the wonderful reviews. It lurked on my mind though, and I tried it out for a potluck today. It was fantastic. I made it last night and let the flavors meld together awhile, then added the tomatoes right before serving. Soooo good. I served it with a fresh baked sourdough round that I cut into cubes. I definately definately think fresh tomatoes are key here. Wonderful! Thanks Kathy.

Slow Cooker London Broil

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2003
I feel bad giving this only 3 stars after all the rave reviews. I have mixed feelings on this one. The meat just fell apart, which I really loved. And the flavor of the sauce is great, but my meat turned out very dry. I might try this again though, and shorten the cooking time. My kids ate it with no gravy, and with ketchup instead and they loved it. And my husband smothered it with the sauce and said he thought it was a 4 star recipe.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2003
We loved these. I followed the recipe exactly, other than I used cooking sherry instead of white wine. Didnt want to have to go out to the store for one item. They came out very tender, and though I was worried about the amount of cooking time, they were not dry at all. Though I did use a thick cut boneless chop. Thanks for the recipe Dawn!

Pastitsio II

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2003
This was good pastitsio. My husband loved it, but neither of my kids would touch it. I didnt really expect that they would though. Nothing wrong with this recipe, other than I added cinnamon to my meat.. and im not entirely sure about the taste of wine in the sauce. Im still looking for my perfect pastitsio recipe. Thanks Catherine!

Greek Style Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2003
Love these. I did substitute chicken broth for the water/bouillon cubes, and used 1 cup. I also used a greek seasoning. I hate to review a recipe when I altered it, but I think I stayed pretty close. I will definately make again.

Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2003
This recipe has a lot of potential to be a family favorite around here. It was easy to make, and I usually have all the ingredients on hand. My only problem with it, was that I should have listened to some previous reviews and not used the entire amount of filling. It came out a little on the soggy side in the middle, I probably should have left it in a bit longer. Also, I just drizzled on a light amount of the frosting.

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2003
I had tons of white bread for some reason, so I decided to make this and use it up. I didnt have time to let the bread cubes dry out as long as I should have, and wonder how much of a difference it made. This was good, my husband said it was better than any of the quick stuffings you buy in a box. Very easy, and definately would be easy to tweak per your families preferences. Next time I might but some sausage and apple in it.

Awesome Ham Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2003
I am still looking for a pasta salad my husband and I can agree on. He gave this a 5 star plus, but for me it was really just way too sweet. I probably should have opted for dill pickles instead. My husband loved it though, and ate the entire bowl in three days.
