Caramelized Turnips

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
I fixed this tonight and my husband and I argued about who got the last bit! Only change I made was I cooked the turnips in beef broth that I made because I'm allergic to most broths and bouillon cubes that are on the market. Tasted great and we will be making it many times from here on out.

Sausage 'n Kraut

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
Other than changing the ratio of meat to sauerkraut, we followed this recipe fairly closely. Used fresh onion instead of dried and celery seed instead of the flakes. Turned out great! Even I liked it and I don't like sauerkraut very much.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
This is an excellent recipe! I never have been to Germany but it tastes better than the local German restaurant. Followed the directions except for I added an extra slice of bacon. Tasted great! Serving size was about right for my husband and I with a little leftover. I'd say it would be perfect for 3 alongside a meal.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
Amazing cornbread! I forgot the sugar...and it was STILL good! Made it in an 8" cast iron skillet and a smaller #3 pan as well. It was done in 25 minutes and was absolutely perfect. I will be making this again!!!

Rye Beer Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
I don't like rye bread, but wanted to try this since I know I like beer bread. I followed the recipe and used Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark for the beer. Strong and rich in flavor, it is excellent. I will definitely make it again.

Excellent! I used exactly what was called for except for I substituted bread yeast for the active dry. Turned out great and will definitely make again!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
This was a great recipe! I left in the fridge overnight as I got caught up making lemon meringue pie while I was waiting on the dough to chill. They turned out fantastic! Ended up using the 8 minute bake time. Rolled in colored sugars and they're quite tasty looking. I've had one and have somehow managed not to eat the dozens of cookies this recipe makes. I love that I can share them all because this makes SO many cookies! Definitely 5 stars! I'd recommend it. It's great as is...no modifications needed.

Perfect taste! It does make a LOT of sauce. Next time I will half the recipe.

Very good, although a little on the dry side. Went great with the cucumber sauce recipe.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
This recipe was fantastic! I used a rump roast, but would suggest a different cut as it was quite chewy and like eating elastic. Other than the cut of meat, this was superb. Exactly what I wanted. I will try a different cut of meat next time (perhaps sirloin tip as someone else suggested) but the rest of the recipe is good.

Slow-Cooked Country Ribs in Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
This recipe was quite good and was exactly what I was looking for. I like how it was kinda barbeque but not really. It was extremely tender and was great leftover. I'd recommend it.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
Absolutely love this recipe! I halved it since it's just my husband and I. My husband normally doesn't like dumplings, but he ate a few and added mashed potatoes. (I'm impressed he ate any at all!) They are fluffy on the inside which was a pleasant surprise. I added NO salt and it didn't need it. I did exactly half of what is called for except for the butter. I will be making it again soon. It's great for a cold day :-)

French Onion Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
I tried this tonight mostly because my husband loves french onion soup. I tried some modifications suggested by another review and it still needs some adjustment. 1/2 stick butter is enough, 2 large yellow onions isn't enough. I used 4 cans (2 cartons) of broth. I would rather have mozzarella on top as opposed to swiss. Also, it definitely needs some salt. I put in two teaspoons (guesstimate) and that still wasn't enough for my husband. The bay leaf was a good touch. I will definitely try the recipe again. Just with some more modifications to make it more how my husband likes it.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2010
This called for four servings, so I ended up modifying it for my husband and I. I also took some suggestions from fellow reviewers. I ended up using 1 chicken breast (a large one), 1/2 the dressing packet, 1/2 the cream cheese, 1/2 stick butter, 1/2 c sour cream, and added in some oregano and basil to add some more seasoning. Ended up perfect. Could taste everything fairly equally and the chicken just fell apart. I'll definitely be cooking this again!
