Granny Mabel's Best Bar Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2004
These are probably the best cookies/bars I've ever had or made. I have had a ton of people request them at my work and I've had to give the recipe to like ten people. The only changes I made were to: change the sugar to 3/4 c. sugar and 3/4 c. brown sugar, and add a tsp of vanilla to the melted butter. I also use 3/4 cup of caramel because I couldn't find the right size jar (also, I bake 15 and 15 because my oven is finiky).

Creamy Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2003
While I agree that the cake part is great, and it is easily made into a low fat dessert, the frosting left something to be desired. It got all lumpy when the pudding didn't mix with the milk. It still tasted really good, and I will use it again. Maybe I'll mix with a wisk this time....

Grilled Orange-and-Bourbon Salmon

This was an excellent recipe, my guests and I really enjoyed it. I didn't grill it because I didn't want to heat of the grill, but baking it worked beautifully. I highly recommend it.

Lemon Fiesta Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2003
I have a very similar recipe for a lemon loaf (baked in the large loaf pan). We don't use the lemon extract or raisins and use more zest. Also, instead of the frosting, it's really good to combine about 3/4 cup each of fresh lemon juice and sugar to use as a glaze. When the cake comes out of the oven, let it cool for about 15 minutes, then poke it all over with the slender skewer and pour the glaze over. It will soak it up and it adds amazing flavor. Highly recommended.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2003
This was wonderful, so moist. To the reviewer who had to add applesauce because of dryness- you probably just cooked it too long, I did that the first time. I also always line my pans for easier release. Was wonderful, will use forever!

Baklava

I too doubled the sauce and added cloves to the nuts, but I found that the bottom got quite soggy. No one seemed to mind the sogginess as the flavor was phenomenal. Will definitely use again and share with others.

Aargau Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2003
Yes, it was good, however, there was more fat than just the eggs. The almonds contribute a significant amount to the total fat.

Easy Layer Bar Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2003
These are the greatest bars (we call them magic cookie bars). The butterscotch is a must! Also, pecans can be substituted for walnuts (or can be left out entirely). Non-fat or low-fat sweetened condensed milk and non-fat or low-fat graham cracker can be used for a lighter version!

Caramel Crispy Treats II

I really liked the crispy part of it, but the chocolate on top never firmed up and melted when served. Nobody seemed to mind too much :)

No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2003
I love these cookies, but I'm too lazy to use the stove so I microwave them instead. Put everything but the oats, pb and vanilla in a bowl and cook for 3 1/2 minutes, stir and then cook for 3 1/2 more minutes and stir in the oats and stuff. I've also done it once where I left out the cocoa and microwaved the rest but at the end I added oats and cut up peanut butter cups and they melted beautifully.

Maple Meltaways

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2003
I made these for the office and added a butter/maple/sugar glaze and they were gone in 5 minutes with a note that they were the best cookies they'd ever had. A few tips: don't flatten when you put the pecan on top, they spread, and if your kitchen is warm put the formed cookies on the sheet in the frige for a few minutes so they won't spread too much. A great recipe I will use over and over and over again.

Pumpkin Spice Ring

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2003
I think this recipe could be really good . . . but something went terribly wrong. I could not get it to cook through. When I finally took it out after an extra 15 minutes of baking the edges were charred and the center was mush. I will try again, like I said, it could be good.

Peppermint Meringues

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2002
These were wonderful. I made two batches yesterday, one with peppermint like the recipe-except that I stirred some in and sprinkled some on top; and a second batch with lemon zest sprinkled with sugar (omitted the peppermints). Both came out beautifully, and they're nearly gone. Will use again . . . and again

Orange Pumpkin Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2002
Great flavor! I substituted cranberries for the raisins and they worked wonderfully. My only complaint is that the outside and the top becomes sticky and a little mushy, but that's nothing new with dense breads and the flavor more than makes up for it. I will make it again and again!

Baked Pumpkin Bread

Though I liked the bread, the first thing my mom said was "This is low fat, isn't it?" It was pretty good but was obviously low fat. Will try again, but with some modifications.

Michelle's Famous Washed Cranberry Sauce

I made this for my family at Thanksgiving. It was good, but I found that about 3/4 cup of both sugars was better as the 1/2 cup was quite tart. Will use again for Christmas!

What a wonderful recipe! I changed the streusel a little and used my crust recipe and it won best pumpkin pie at the fair. It has a light taste and texture, not to mention how simple it was to make.
