About this Cook
My family is on a "whole foods" diet- with the definition of diet being "one's usual food." We'd love to go all-organic someday, when we can afford it. Not only do I have to make my foods yummy for my husband and attractive for my daughter, but also interesting to me. No small feat when I do most things from scratch!
My favorite things to cook
I've always loved to bake- especially desserts! I'm beginning to be a decent bread baker, and I'm working on trying at least one new recipe every week.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays! What a great time to get together and show off what you can cook. My family has many good cooks- everyone makes the same favorite "must have" thing every year, and all the bases are covered.
My cooking triumphs
I can make condensed soups from scratch, my stocks are amazing, and I've come to realize that honey and maple syrup make anything taste way better than sugar every will!
My cooking tragedies
When my husband and I first married, I was not a good cook. In fact, I was barely a cook at all! I made an apple pie according to my family's recipe and the crust turned out very crumby. I tried broccoli soup (pregnant at the time) and it was so gross that I still have trouble getting past the memory!

Oven-Roasted Asparagus
Delicious! Even my two year old enjoyed this asparagus to the point of asking for more!

Spicy Orange Beef
This was DELICIOUS! Definitely a keeper recipe for me. I added about 6 cups of stir-fried vegetables and there was still plenty of sauce/glaze for them. I do prefer my sauces thicker, so I will add extra cornstarch in the future.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce
YUM! This was great. I added basil to my sauce (what can I say? I LOVE basil!) and also served broccoli with the pasta. Another keeper!
