Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
I recommend using Hellman's mayo. The first time I made this with Miracle Whip I cut the sugar to 1/4 cup. It was good but when I made it a second time I used Hellman's and I added the 3/4 c. sugar. It made a HUGE improvement for my taste. It is sweet but it's also delicious. I think it would be great with grilled meats or a spicey BBQ. I will make again. I should add that I am a mayo person rather than a MW person and my mayo of choice is Hellman's(or Best Foods here in Phoenix).

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
Delicious and easy. I love slow cooker recipes! My apartment smelled so good. I couldn't wait to get to it. I used a whole pound of sweet sausage in the casing which ended up being my favorite part. Thanks, Ashley!

Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
I love jambalaya and I love using a slow cooker but I did not love "Slow Cooker Jambalaya." I ate it with buttered ciabatta bread which I toasted and rubbed with a garlic clove. It seemed more like a stew. It wasn't bad...it just wasn't great. I really wanted to like it but I won't make it again.

Jim's Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
I'm giving 5 stars because it's a great recipe to begin with and it's also a great jumping off point. After the first "by the recipe" batch(which was great) I knew how I would "tweak" it the next time. Replaced dill pickles with "bread 'n' butter"(and lots of 'em). Bell pepper out...celery in. Thin slices of chopped ham instead of olives & I thinned out the dressing with a little pickle juice. Those are my changes to a great original recipe and for the first time ever I can say "YIPPEE" to a macaroni salad!! I never thought that would happen. I'm so stoked I'm thinking about trying that Amish mac salad recipe I've seen on this site. Wish me luck.

Just a question of personal taste. I was looking for a homier version. I was not crazy about the ginger.

Slow Cooker Lentils and Sausage

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
Good recipe. I will make this again. I used chicken broth because that's what I had in my pantry. I also added a lot more carrots because I love them in this sort of recipe. I served this with cornbread and hot sauce on the side. YUM.

Fried Cabbage II

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
This was good. It just didn't blow me away. I always just cut my cabbage in wedges-leaving the core in to keep it in one piece and fry the wedges in butter with a little salt and pepper. I like the wedge to get browned on each side. So quick and easy.

Pearl Baked Cream Onions

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2004
this is one delicious recipe. i couldn't find frozen pearl onions. it would have been nice because peeling those little suckers wasn't easy. after having read the other reviews i steamed my onions first...till tender and then followed the recipe from there. i will make this again. thanks.

Beans-n-Franks

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2004
i've made this numerous times and i'm giving it 4 stars because i've had to tweak the recipe for my taste. first i use hot sausages instead of hotdogs(something like a keilbasa-just spicier). i also add a dab each of ketchup, bbq sauce and molasses. i also just make it on top of the stove. it's quick and very much a comfort food for me.

Catherine's Spicy Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
what's really great about this recipe is that it uses things you probably already have in your pantry. i was looking for a crock pot soup when i found this recipe. i did cook the chicken in the crock(on low for several hours)but ended up finishing on the stove...it was too much for the crockpot. i used my 8qt stock pot and it wasn't too big. my chicken was so tender from the crock that it melted in the mouth AND in the pot...next time i will not shred but cube it instead. i'm bad about tweaking a recipe and i had planned on dropping a dollop of the sour cream on top of the soup for "presentation". i followed the directions instead and was glad. the sour cream really rounds out the flavor. i also added a little cubed avocado to each bowl...maybe a tablespoon or so. this makes 8 hearty portions. serve with your favorite cornbread.

Perfect Lemon Curd

I will definitely look for another recipe. I agree the directions had to be incomplete. It did not set up and it was not sweet enough. Sorry but i will not try this recipe again.

Banana Pudding III

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2002
I got this recipe from a coworker who brought the pudding for a dinner at work. boy-oh-boy!!! It was a big hit and everyone wanted the recipe. since then i have made it numerous times and I always hear "THIS IS THE BEST...blahblahblah" and it's true. I think 3 bananas is kinda skimpy--i usually use 6 large. Definitely make it...put it in the fridge and forget about it for at least a day or two. The pudding part is what sets this recipe apart. don't substitute cool whip for the whipped cream because the w.c. cuts the sweetness of the pudding mix/sweetened condensed milk--cool whip is already sweet. if you like bananas you will love this recipe. it's nummy!!

Chili I

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2002
i have made this recipe several times and even made a double batch one time and froze it. i love it. the sweetness balances out the heat from the hot peppers. i like it pretty hot. i have used different chilie peppers. i liked them all except the jalapeno. this recipe is quick to make after you get all the ingredients together. a long simmer is not necessary.
