We had a Greek themed dinner party tonight. I made this recipe last night and I thought it was a total train wreck. I was upset at the way it looked and when I spooned the sauce over it I was thinking, ""I'm not going to serve this. There is no way this is going to work." Boy was I wrong. This stuff rocks! It's incredible and something that I would expect to receive at a good Greek bakery. The guests said that it was better than any baklava that they had had. I added a touch of nutmeg to the nuts and used pecans and toasted them. I melted the butter and used a pastry brush to apply it. My actual baking time was closer to 35 minutes...it was starting to get too brown. The review by Sandra Lee gives excellent tips to make the process easier...I wish I had read it BEFORE I baked it. If you are not familiar with phyllo, there is a slight learning curve, but after you get past that this is easy and delicious. My wife wants me to make it for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. So far the best recipe I've found here...and I've found some really good ones!
