I'm a working Mom of 1 school-age boy. I cook because I have to, = ( ,
but I love to cook the things I love to eat!
My favorite things to cook
Anything baked, fried, or basically delicious and not really healthy, but I would classify it as home cooking or Paula Dean'ish, but I'm not Southern. I love potatoes, cheese, etc. in ingredients and almost anything dessert.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm just learning how to cook my Polish Grandmother's foods--almost lost because they're just in my Mom's, Aunt's & cousin's heads--nothing's written down! I'm just getting good at my version of "pigs in the blanket." But boy does it stink up the house! hahaha It all comes from the heart, so it's all good.
My cooking triumphs
I don't make up recipes, but I'm proud when I can spot a winner and follow the recipe the first time and make it come out fabulous--cheesecake, fancy cakes, big meals that come together all at once--that's skill baby!
My cooking tragedies
I made a from scratch 3-layer Strawberry Cream Cheese cake that takes 2 days to make, for a co-workers birthday party (to be presented at work & enjoyed by all) that required 3 separate round cake pans. I didn't dig out my pans until I had the batter ready to pour (stupid me), so I improvised and tried to stuff 3 mock cake pans into my standard oven--not!-- & ended up with two half-burned layers and one barely cooked layer that ended up horrible! I tried to salvage the mess and put it together. When we dug in, it was battery in places and black in others. I was so embarrassed. My friend, God bless her, claimed it a triumph to save my face, and took it home--hopefully to her garbage disposal. Oh well, sometimes you win, sometimes you screw it up big.
