Pork, Cashew, and Green Bean Stir-Fry

Reviewed: May 12, 2014
I used low-salt soy sauce and it still came out too salty for us. Reviews said to double the sauce, so I doubled the soy sauce, which was a mistake. I will try it again using the directions as written.

This is the best! I have been making this for several years and always get asked for the recipe.

Superb Cranberry Sauce with Apples and Pears

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2011
This is great for people who aren't really fond of cranberries - it has a lot of apple flavor. It's pretty good, but I personally prefer cranberry relish.

Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
I got this recipe from my grandma years ago, and I still love it. You must be careful to completely drain the pineapple. I put it in a strainer and press it to get the juice out. This is yummy!

Candy Bar Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
I think jegpu was just being sarcastic because it's not a healthy dish. It's fun for a special occasion, although it does sound more like a dessert than a salad.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
I have been making this recipe for 25 years and it's the best! We like nutbreads so I add chopped walnuts to the dry ingredients just before adding the wet ingredients. My husband hates pumpkin pie but he loves this pumpkin bread!

Senate Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2011
We really loved this soup! I made broth with the hambone as suggested. I used to have a Senate Bean Soup recipe (that I loved) that included basil and oregano, so I added a teaspoon of each. Perfect for a cold night!

Pineapple Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
I really liked this recipe, but I think it would be better with fresh pineapple and chilis instead of canned. The canned chilis had an unappetizing color. Other than that, it's great and I will make it again. I think it would be equally good with orzo or even rice.

Holiday Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
I have been making this for several years and should have reviewed it before now. This is a great recipe! I had a similar dish at a five star hotel and found the recipe here. Everyone loves it! The dried cranberries and roasted pecans really make this salad great. I omit the seasoned salt, though, because we try to limit salt intake. I like to make it with leftover rotisserie chicken - tastes great and super easy!

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
Awesome! I made this after a day of housepainting and it was wonderful to have a great dinner with so little work. I did use a little meat tenderizer instead of salt and cooked 9 minutes per pound, as someone previously suggested, because the hubby doesn't like rare meat. Still, it had a nice light pink middle, was juicy and delicious! Served it with sauteed baby portobellos and tomato slices - what could be easier?

Pineapple Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I got this recipe from my grandmother over 30 years ago, and I still make it. Have tried many cheese balls over the years and this is still my favorite! But what's with the picture? It does not look like it's rolled in chopped pecans...

Hot and Sweet Ginger Drink

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I make this just because I like it, although I am sure it is soothing for throats and stomachs. I do not add any sweetener because I am diabetic. One point: ginger is good for regulating blood sugar levels. As far as sweetness goes, I guess it's like tea - we Southerners tend to like it sweeter, but this is really good unsweetened, too. Be sure to try this tea iced, too. In the summer I keep a pitcher of water with ginger slices in the fridge. It's very refreshing!

Jan Hagel Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
I have been making these for years, but use sliced almonds instead of walnuts. Also, I sprinkle white sugar liberally over the egg white and then add the almonds for a crunchy topping. Everybody loves these!

Honey Mustard Dressing

I used organic agave syrup instead of honey, as I am watching my blood sugar levels. Very good!

Cheese Grits

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
In answer to the question about making this dish ahead of time, yes, you can. I made it the night before and cooked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, then refrigerated it. The next morning I warmed it (covered with foil) for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees and it came out great. I haven't tried freezing it. I have made this both with processed cheese and sharp cheddar. I think you could use any hard cheese that suits your taste.

Smoky Chicken Spread

This was even better than I expected; easy to make and my guests loved it! I used the breast meat of a rotisserie chicken to make it moist. I will make this often!

Baby BLT

Not hard to make, but a little time-consuming. However, when you want to impress people, Baby BLT's look and taste great! But for a football game, I would probably make BLT dip with pita chips.

Hot Banana Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
Wow, everybody loved this. I did get wimpy and substituted a jalapeno pepper for the habanero and it was just the right amount of hot for me, although I am sure it is excellent with the habanero. I made it ahead and added bananas just before serving. Everyone loved the fresh taste and interesting combination of flavors! Thanks!

Best-Ever Texas Caviar

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
This is really good and everyone loves it! The first time I made this I left out the cilantro because one of the guests hates it, but I just made it with the cilantro and it was even better. Only change I made was to use 1/4 cup lime juice and 1/4 cup rice vinegar instead of the 1/2 cup rice vinegar, mainly because I really like lime.
