I'd like to ask the AR community about what kind of food I should make/bring for a protest. It is a peaceful demonstration, held at Purdue University in Indiana, to protest the appointment of Indiana governor Mitch Daniels as the new president of the university, which is my alma mater.  (I… MORE

Long time, no writing -- at least not here.  I got sick of not being allowed to swear. So anyway, I changed the URL at blogspot to match the one I had here, because I like that a lot better and it makes way more sense.  If you would like to follow my (frequent) posts, go… MORE

It's my birthday today, and it's 88°F outside.  A welcome change from the chilly weather that has given me pause regarding planting a garden out back.  The only problem with the hot weather, aside from sweat stains, is that my kitchen doesn't have a ceiling fan and my air… MORE

I posted several months ago about David's stomach's aversion to pizza.  In that post, I wrote about his severe acid reflux, and how ever since he became my roomie, I've had to re-think the spice factor in everything I cook.  Well, after months of nagging (and years of nagging from my aunt… MORE

I didn't celebrate Valentine's Day in my last relationship.  We might've said "happy Valentine's" with a kiss or something, but I always insisted he not get anything for me.  We didn't go to dinner, either, because for most of the time we were together, (1) I knew restaurants would… MORE

So the Super Bowl party was a hit.  In attendance other than David were my parents, my aunt and uncle, my cousin Kristy and her husband, my friend Dan and his wife, and my friend Katy from work.  Then on Monday, I discovered the elusive yet powerful Food Hangover. I made chili, since it… MORE

I badgered David into letting me have my first-ever Super Bowl party.  His 46" plasma screen television probably helped him make that decision.  Counting kids and spouses, I've invited almost thirty people.  Mostly local family, a couple girlfriends and their SOs, a couple co-workers...… MORE

The good thing about where I work is that we'll always be in business.  Stents will always be in high demand (as long as McDonald's is open anyway), smokers with acid reflux will always need endoscopy procedures, women having babies will always need corrective devices for uterine trauma,… MORE

I was bored today while watching the Chiefs vs. Ravens, so I decided to try out a cooking show.  I've never watched cooking shows; my main television interests usually include my teams from the NFL, "The Office," and bad reality shows.  However, I've been in a "let's do… MORE

.. but I'm not sure about my cornbread.  The last cornbread I made from AR... something like "Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread," maybe... was amazing.  I'm not much of a baker, but I found that -- if you follow ingredients exactly -- that thing in the oven turns out pretty good. … MORE

About Me
I'm a technical writer living in Lafayette, IN. I go into why I started cooking in my blog... let's just say there was a man involved.
My favorite things to cook
Rib roast, my special green beans, anything Mexican (especially fajitas), egg souffle, baked salmon, my roasted potatoes, anything I haven't cooked before
My favorite family cooking traditions
Like any Hoosier family -- corn on the cob!
My cooking triumphs
Impressing my brother, who is an awesome cook, with my lasagna; getting my cousin to eat vegetables for the first time ever, as mine are apparently more palatable somehow.
My cooking tragedies
The handful of times that I have grossly over-seasoned the food. Also, once I left Italian peas on the stove too long (I was trying to shove a friend out the door so we could eat) and the peas turned to mush.
