I have lived in the same small town all of my life.I've been married for 44 years and have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. We live on a wheat ranch in southeastern Washington State. I was the Food Service Supervisor at our school for 18 years. It is a K-12 school with an enrollment of approximately 290 students.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking. I will try just about anything. I think that baking pies would be my favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family loves to get together for holidays, especially Thanksgiving. I have 2 sisters and a cousin who are all great cooks, so we all cook up a storm. Usually trying new receipes. So, it is fun to see who brings what to our meal outside of the traditional Turkey, dressing, and potatoes
My cooking triumphs
When I was a newly wed I was thrown into cooking in Harvest. We had a crew of 8-10, then we always had visitors. We had 3 large meals a day. I would plan for anywhere up to 20 people for our noon meal. I learned a great deal and tryed out lots of receipes and most of the time they were very good. I make a pie for our Lions Club Auction they have every year, and the deal is that I make the winner of the pie a pie every month for a year. There is always lots of bidding going on. I think last year it sold for $250.
My cooking tragedies
I was making chili for our school lunch one time and I accidently put cayenne pepper instead of chili powder in it. I had to be very creative in trying to take the heat out. It ended up okay, but I was pretty concerned for awhile.
