I'm a wife and mother who really enjoys cooking for others and blessing them with good food and an enjoyable meal time. I've been cooking for over 40 years and still love to learn new ways of cooking and try out new recipes.
I have owned a bakery and made wedding cakes for several years, but now have left the bustle of business to settle in to baking and cooking just for my family and friends.
I found this site about 3 years ago and have relied on it ever since for ideas, instructions and opinions.
My favorite things to cook

My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving with all the trimmings is such a joy for me to cook. My family loves the traditional foods and enjoys a new recipe added to the menu every now and then.
I like to cook a special request meal for our children and my husband on their birthdays and I'm often called on to make wedidng cakes and cater receptions.
Several years ago when grandparents became unable to host Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, I began some of our own traditions. Now the Thanksgiving dinner is at my house and we have a Christmas Goose dinner on Christmas Eve.
We have winter getogethers where we play in the snow and then share a cup of homemade hot chocolate or Wassail.
My cooking triumphs
As a young wife and mother in 1984 I cooked a homestyle Southern dinner for our New York friends who came from a family of wonderful Italian cooks. I served baked sweet potatoes, turnip greens, cornbread, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, fried country ham and a buttermilk pie. The meal was a success and I was so proud to be able share a part of my heritage with our friends.
My cooking tragedies
My husband wanted roasted chestnuts one Christmas. Those aren't something most Southern Girls have opportunity to cook. How was I to know you were supposed to cut an "X" through the shells before baking??
Well, I didn't, I just popped them in a baking dish and turned on the heat. In about 20 minutes we heard what sounded like gun shots from the kitchen! Then more and more gunshots! LOL! What a mess I had to clean out of the oven.
