Being a mother of five (all grown now and on their own) who all frequent my home with my 10 grandchildren I find myself still cooking for large groups. You know their is nothing like Mom's cooking. I do like to prepare their favorite meals. My kids love the annual Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimmings. They also have a sweet tooth and I like to bake cakes and pies. I also teach my grandchildren to cook and read a recipe. They love to bake cakes and cookies and try different tastes.
My favorite things to cook
One of my son's favorite meals is Pork Chops so I could that meal when he visits. Another son loves Mexican food, particularly Tacos, Carnitas & Spanish Rice. While another prefers Italian. I love them all so we cook these type foods often.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, salad of some sort, fruits/salad, cranberry sauce & dinner rolls. For dessert we prepare pumpkin pie (from scratch using real pumpkin) pecan pie, cheesecake and any other pie or cake requested. The entire family loves this meal and looks forward to it every year.
My cooking triumphs
My family calls me the "left-over queen" as I can take a left over dish and make it into something new and no one knows it's left overs. My kids have said so many times they don't eat left overs. If they only knew!!! I only tell them after dinner when they say how delicious the meal was that I used left overs taking up space in the fridge.
My cooking tragedies
I recall one incident although not really a tragedy when my twin and I were processing pumpkin. When I placed the pumpkin in the blender I forgot to place the lid on the blender. You guessed it - pumpkin decorated my ceiling, walls, floor, and all of the kitchen including the hanging utensils. We cleaned (and laughed)the entire week. This tragedy was great fun. We did have plenty of pumpkin to bake our pies.
