My mother never taught me to cook, and she was a great cook, but I have had to learn on my own. Through the years of raising three boys, I never really had the time to learn anything special to make. When the smoke detector went off my kids would say "Mom's cooking again" Now that my boys are older, I have the time to try new recipes and ideas and am having so much fun at it. Every weekend I plan out several dishes to attempt, my wonderful husband loves everything I make and now the kids actually LIKE my cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking so many things, probably my favorite is made with zucchini, because I always end up with so much of it from my garden, and it is so versatile.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition has to be Thanksgiving. What's better than smelling the turkey cooking all day and then adding to the pleasure with the additional side dishes!
My cooking triumphs
I have a HUGE cooking triumph, like I said my mother never had the patience to teach me to cook, and she never really canned much. Now that I have my own garden I make homemade spaghetti sauce and salsa every year and every year they get better. Well recently I took the home grown tomatoes one step further and made ketchup!!! It is delicious!!! It's call Heintz Ketchup
My cooking tragedies
The first Thanksgiving I ever hosted, my boyfriend at the time, brought home a goose. I didn't wash it, I didn't try to get the feathers off of it, I just stuck it in the oven. Once it was done and we pulled it out of the oven, we could see the hard feathers sticking straight out of the skin as well as found the bag of giblets inside the bird. I think we ended up going out for dinner that year.
