Grandma's Precious One
About this Cook
I am semi-retired. I run the paper part of our business and enjoy and precious grandson Michael (affectionately referred to as Mijo). I love to cook and love to try new ideas. I have a bad habit of "inventing" recipes which really annoys friends who ask for a recipe.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking all main courses, salads, veggies, soups and stews. I am not a sweet eater so I hate baking, but I do make fabulous pastry and pies (only under duress). I like fresh ingredients, simple (elegant if need be), flavourful. I make my own salad dressings and use a lot of fresh and dried herbs. I use little to no prepared foods in my overall cooking. Canned tomatoes are almost the only canned product I buy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
According to my family, no one can beat my gravy, turkey stuffing, salmon and salad dressings. I don't use commercial salad dressings. My parents were farm-raised so I learned early to cook what was available. It doesn't matter who is in the house at dinner-time, I can always feed a crowd. The more the merrier!
My cooking triumphs
Baked Salmon, turkey stuffing. I can make gravy out of nothing and make it delicious (don't ask me how). Would it be because I LOVE gravy??? My 2-yr old grandson eats everything grandma cooks, including salad, coleslaw - such a delight when seeing what picky little eaters are out there. Of course, our family doesn't allow picky - you eat what is served to you - it's all in how you handle the little darlings.
My cooking tragedies
A Christmas Morning Strata. My family won't eat "wet bread". Now we have bagels, cream cheese and lox Christmas morning. Everyone does their own!

Greek Chicken Pasta
I made this and it was wonderful I used a combination of canned artichokes and marinated ones, and used half the amount of pasta. I also added olives and used shrimp instead of chicken. To those who thought is was too "lemony", that would be because the recipe is for canned artichokes so adding lemon is perfect. If you are using marinated artichokes, omit the lemon. I use dry greek seasoning in stead of just oreganno. A nicer blend of greek flavours. Save 1/2 c pasta water to add to eliminate the dryness. Mine wasn't dry, but the sauce is just supposed to coat the pasta, not drown it.

Cocktail Meatballs
I use 1 jar of Heinz Chili Sauce and 1 jar Grape Jelly and frozen meatballs. We call them Jelly Balls and have been making them for 30 yrs. I also do them in the crock pot.
