Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
I have made this bread many times now without any issues what so ever. I live in ohio and the flour amount is perfect. This makes me about 2 bread pan sized monster loaves or one really long bread pan loaf. I use half the amount of sugar thats called for in the recipe as my goal is sandwich bread. I also use about 2 tbs of yeast instead of 1 1/2 it gives it a slightly stronger yeast taste like you get in store bought bread. I have started using grapeseed oil instead of veg simce istaying away from gmo's. Olive oil is too heave, it makes it dense. I make this in a bread machine so i add the water, salt, sugar and oil first then the flour on top, and finally the yeast. I set it to dough which mixes and rests for about an hour and a half. Then i put it in the pan and rise again. No hand or mixer kneeding, no proofing the yeast. Its so simple! We dont buy store bread anymore. This is perfect.

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
THe first time i made this i thought the flavor was a little bland.. i normally cook with a lot of spices so im sure that was just my prefrence. The second time i made this, i used the recipe as a base.. i ended up adding 1 lb of sausage, cubed ham, bacon, onions and 2 cubbed potatos as well. i also added sage, garlic and onion powder to the mix as well. y guy doesnt like much cheese so we only used about a half cup of cheese in the mix. Left over night to absorb, by morning it was nicely puffed up and all the liquid was absorbed. It baked up perfectly and my guy loved it.. he was reluctant at first because he doesnt like trying new things but he has since requested it again. 4 stars because i thought the origionaly was a bit bland but a great base for personalization!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
When a pancake is done right, you dont even need syrup. This is that recipe. I always seperate my egg yolk from the white so i can beat the white before adding it in so i did that but i didnt change the recipe at all. I threw some chocolate chips on for my 1 year old son and sprinkled a little powdered sugar on top and he finally ate his breakfast without complaining! This on is a keeper!

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
This turned out like a custard... it was nothing like a smooth creamy pudding that most people are use to. Thee egg ruined it. even as it was setting up it became lumpy. (with proper tempering)

Sweet Corn Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
i tried this two ways. The 3 star rating is for the recipe as written. the first time i followed the recipe as written. When the dish was ready to serve the end result didnt turn out how i expected it to. It was kinda tough and sticky. Tacky even. The second attempt i made a few changes. I normally ise the chichis packet to make thins and all you do is add butter and cream corn so thats what i did. I followed the recipes ingredients and measurments except - i omitted the frozen corn and heavy whipping cream. I substituted those for a can of creamed corn. I prepared it by using a large bowl and combining all the dry ingredients. Next i added the cream corn, butter and water. Mixed to combine. Then i poured into the baking dish and baked. The result was dead on chi chis.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
I did a boneless wing version of this and since i dont have a deep fryer, i did these in a frying pan on the stove. I didnt change the recipe at all and they were really good. My boyfriend said if hed have known we could make them at home, we would have saved tons on eating them out!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
Easy recipe and really good. Tastes similar to wendys chili. There isnt anything funny tasting like others have stated. Its not your plain jane tomato juice wannabe chili recipe though. it has lots of flavor and is bulked up by a lot of meat. this recipe made about 6 quarts so i half it.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
These are really good. Just as ginger cookie should be! The only thing i did different, was add 1/2 cup of bite size candied ginger pieces to the mix. I squished them a little thinner than what i wanted the final cookie to be because they did puff up in the oven.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
The only thing i didnt like about this was the frosting. It was way too sweet and not tart enough to taste like the real thing. I even doubled the cream cheese to try to cut the sweetness but it didnt help.. On a second run, i used an 8 oz block of cream cheese with only 1 cup of powdered sugar plus the rest of the icing ingredients as written in the recipe and it was much closer to the icing served on the rolls at cinnabon. i would suggest to the sugar a little at a time and taste as you go, stopping once you get to the right consistency and flavor for your taste prefrence. Aside from that, the rolls were spot on!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
This is really good! Its not at all like the cornbread i had growing up- which is why i like it! This is a sweet bread more like the kind you find individually wrapped at grocery stores sold along side the rotisery chicken. This recipe is awsome- my boyfriend who doesnt like corn bread even asked for seconds of this!

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
This recipe was good but not what i was looking for. Im use to macaroni salad being more of a mayo base without mustard. That being said, with the recipe only calling for 2 1/2 tbs, i thought it would have been fine but still, i think there was way too much mustard in it for what im use to. It reminded me of a potato salad dressing instead of macaroni salad. Like other people, i reduced the sugar. I halved it then added a little at a time to get to my taste prefrence. Good salad but ill only make it again when im looking for something different that my usual.
