Garbanzo Tomato Pasta Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
I knew this soup would need to cook longer to bring out the flavors. I didn't bother to saute` the onion and garlic, I just put all except the beans and pasta into my slow cooker. I used 1 teaspoon of basil and added 1 teaspoon of oregano and just let it cook on low for most of the day. An hour before serving I added the beans, let the cooker heat back to simmer then the last 30 minutes I added the pasta. Much more flavorful.

Spaghetti Pie II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
This was quite bland and a bit dry. This might be improved with simply using Italian Sausage instead of ground beef, leave out the tomato paste and add a can of Rotel but I really think for our spicy taste buds we would need a lot more change than that.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
We enjoyed this for a change! I didn't use quite as much garlic. I only used 1 cup of bread crumbs tossed with 1/4 cup of grated Romano.

Chicken Supreme III

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
This needs a bit of tweaking for our taste. Will try again starting with omitting the soup/water, instead, use a jar or two of Heinz Chicken Gravy.

Smothered Green Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
I think omitting the salt and adding a teaspoon of chicken bouillon might give this a more exciting taste.

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
I think seasoning the roast then searing it before putting in the slow cooker would add more flavor to this recipe, also use French Onion Soup instead of beef broth if you don't have Dry Onion soup or just want a bit different taste.

Best Spanish Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2007
I make this when I am in a pinch for time instead of my regular recipe that is much more time consuming. Last night I added a cup of frozen corn and sometimes I will add a can of drained and rinsed black beans. This is really good for how easy it is!

My Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
After reading the reviews I only used 4 ounces of crackers, increase the spices also adding some blackening seasoning. I used Garlic & Herb bread crumbs with some Panko bread crumbs mixed in for extra crunchiness.

Doreen's Teriyaki Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
This was not our favorite, think some Teriyaki sauce may have helped this recipe.

Sauteed Garlic Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2007
The butter will burn easily so I added a little wine and also some prosciutto. I think blanching the asparagus first then tossing in the butter mixture for about 5 minutes works best for us because we prefer them semi-crisp.

Aunt Jewel's Chicken Dressing Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2007
Pretty bland for us but I will try this again and cook the chicken in a frying pan with a little butter and wine adding my favorite seasonings. Maybe this method of cooking the chicken will add the extra flavor we are looking for.

Ricotta Eggplant Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2007
We thought this was very good. I did use a jar of Bartolli's Five Cheese sauce and breaded the eggplant with Garlic & Herb Bread crumbs. Thank you for this submission!

D' Best Chicken N' Dumplings

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
I knew from experience the dumplings would be too flat so I added 3 teaspoons of baking powder (1 teaspoon per cup of flour). The broth needed a lot of tweaking for our taste. I added some garlic powder, bouillon, then ended up adding 2 cans of Cream of Chicken Soup. Took a couple laddles of broth out of the pot and whisked with the soup before adding to the pot. I keep trying to find a Chicken and Dumpling recipe that does not take all day as my regular recipe does but I guess I just need to stick to mine.

Italian Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
I think the onion soup gives this meatball a strange taste, the 2 cups of bread crumbs makes them quite dry and they only take about 35 to 40 minutes to cook, for them to take an hour to cook they would have to be HUGE meatballs.

Chili II

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
I cooked mine in the slow cooker. I don't like to add the beans until the last hour to keep them from turning to mush. I used beef broth instead of tomato juice and also added cumin because the chili seasoning pkg. didn't have enough cumin taste for us. When ground meat was thawed I just cooked, drained and added it to the pot. Served with rolled flour tortillas filled with melted grated cheese.

Mom's Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
This was pretty good. I added some garlic salt and pepper to my steamed squash and onions. I only steamed the vegetables for 10 minutes and next time will steam for only about 7 minutes because I do like them a little crispier. The croutons were pretty good but we do prefer the chicken flavored stuffing mix.
