Danny was 52

The original blog is somehow suddenly corrupted and I have been unable to fix it.  All comments from other buzzers are still in tact there lass="x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_squiggly"> tho :)

Thankfully Mike Harvey had done a fantastic job of compiling all the different links for Danny's story and our efforts (both fun and serious ones) into a momentum blog.  Please see his blog for all the links:
Baking Nana is overseeing the account for purchasing a park bench and red maple tree from Danny & Cindy's friends here at All Recipes.  the park bench and tree will be set up in the neighborhood park of the town where Danny did much of his growing up.  Some of his family are still in the area and will appreciate a place to go and sit awhile and remember Danny.  Any donations that exceed the purchase of the tree, bench and park costs for setting up will be forwarded directly to Cindy.  All donations are greatly appreciated!  I would like to thank Baking Nana for her endless support with this and coordinating the fundraising account.

Or:   http://bakingnana.blogspot.com    (different people are having better luck with one or the other, but once you are in, donating is easy!)

I will continue to try and sort out the original blog after Easter as I know some of us may want to look back on it, but I am leaving home tomorrow morning on a little Easter holiday and want to spend some time being Nanny to my granddaughter :)

As of May 4th we have a raised a total of .......
$2,520.06 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We would like to thank the following people for their kind donation ~ If there appears to be any confusion with your name below, please leave us a note here and we will correct it.  All names will be included in a handmade card for Cindy and in the book lass="x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_squiggly"> LadySparkle is putting together.  We will continue to accept donations until Sunday May 1st.  Being involved in this lass="x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_squiggly"> labour of love has been an honor and a blessing for Baking Nana, lass="x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_x_squiggly"> LadySparkle and myself. Finally managed to get something up that is almost okay! I have had some REAL issues with formatting, so forgive any issues please:)
Apr. 20, 2011 2:23 pm
Well, if it's any consolation Carrie, this new blog is very neat and crisp! Good save!
Apr. 20, 2011 2:26 pm
It looks really good, Carrie. Hope you are having a good day! And, thank you again for your work on this. BN, LS and you have done quite a wonderful thing.
Apr. 20, 2011 2:29 pm
Thank Carrie - it looks great!
Apr. 20, 2011 2:43 pm
I will do a double check on the list of names this evening.
Apr. 20, 2011 2:44 pm
If anyone sees an omission or spelling error please let us know.
Apr. 20, 2011 2:48 pm
Looks wonderful to me! thanks to the three of you for all your hard work and dedication to this project. I am so proud of all the AR peeps for this!
Apr. 20, 2011 4:08 pm
Thank you everyone:)
Apr. 20, 2011 4:49 pm
I had issues with my next to last post, also. In the conversation, the light type was supposed to be italic which looked good in preview but disappeared in posting. Also, there were carriage returns that I couldn't get rid of. I'm wondering if it is a question of compatability with my word processor. Somebody had the same issue as you, not too long ago.
Apr. 20, 2011 5:12 pm
Mike, the really annoying part is you don't see it in preview but as soon as I hit publish it was all over. I also couldn't see any of the issues in Edit mode, there it looked as I wanted so impossible to fix there. I finally had to give up after a good few hours, I was ready to tear my hair out!
Apr. 20, 2011 5:34 pm
For me, the problems arise when the publish button is clicked. Yes, it is annoying. Very annoying. Maddening! Maddening to the point I want to grab the monitor by the cord and choke it's electricity off!
Apr. 20, 2011 5:40 pm
Thanks for doing this Carrie, Baking Nana and Lady Sparkle!!
Apr. 20, 2011 6:40 pm
LOL Mike, when you feel like that, give a shout out and we will hook the bourbon tap up for you!
Apr. 20, 2011 6:48 pm
Denise, it is our pleasure :)
Apr. 20, 2011 8:33 pm
Don't sweat it Carrie. We all know what great job that you, BNana, Lady S, Mike Harvey, and all that are involved in this project are doing. And it is more appreciated than you all know. Can't say it enough, but thank you, and big hugs! Now go and enjoy being Nanny, you deserve it!
Apr. 20, 2011 8:38 pm
It is Shanon not Shannon.
Apr. 20, 2011 8:38 pm
I forgot to say that you have done such a wonderful job. How could I be so negligent?! I think the English teacher in me took over! :)
Apr. 20, 2011 10:33 pm
LOL - Shanon even reminded us of that! :) Sorry Shanon and Marianne - good catch!
Apr. 21, 2011 4:34 am
Thank you Anissa, I am sure we will have fun! Weather permitting we are building a backyard playground. I am most looking forward to her first egghunt tho! I have some yogurt raisins and toddler fruit snacks for her. I also found gluten-free chocolate chip cookie mix for her!
Apr. 21, 2011 4:34 am
Ha! Thank you Marianne, fixed :)
Apr. 21, 2011 4:45 am
Good morning, Carrie! Sun is shining here in Ohio this morning after several very gloomy days!
Apr. 21, 2011 4:57 am
We have sun but still very cold. At least we have clear skies for our drive to the States :)
Apr. 21, 2011 5:06 am
Carrie, you are doing a great job!
Apr. 21, 2011 7:58 am
Excellent job Carrie. Formatting issues!! Such a pain. I know you spend lots of time trying to repair the issues only to find out all the work was done in vain as things remain the same... grrrr!! Anyway, hope things are going well for you. Just posting to help bump it up!!!
Apr. 21, 2011 8:04 am
I have so enjoyed all of you on my first blog I have ever followed and what an inspiration everybody has been. My faity in humanity is intact. Thanks for all your work and time. I am so impressed.

Apr. 21, 2011 12:47 pm
We will update the latest donations as soon as we can. Thanks everyone.
Apr. 21, 2011 12:52 pm
I know it's being repetative but you are all AWESOME. How can we not be proud of all the love and compassion shown to Cindy, and the hard work Mike, Carrie, B'Nana and LadySparkle have put in to this. Happy Easter to all of you/us!
Apr. 21, 2011 2:42 pm
Happy Easter to you to RedCWolf and thank you.
Apr. 21, 2011 6:19 pm

Just stopping in to say hello and give the blog a little bump! Everyone have a nice Easter weekend.
Apr. 22, 2011 9:21 am
You to Marcella!
Apr. 22, 2011 9:22 am
Mike - are you implying that we were any but "ladies" during the Marathon?
Apr. 22, 2011 9:23 am
gderr - Of course we needed to mention you and Claire! Your vote of confidence got things rolling!
Apr. 22, 2011 9:46 am
Happy Easter everyone. The meaning of this season is truly being lived and shown through the people in this thoughtful community. It, too, is miraculous!
Apr. 22, 2011 10:57 am
Let's think back- just a little bit. There's, mudsliding, sleeping under the picnic table, drinking from a bourbon tap, putting a thong on me when I was helples, etc. Shall I continue... "ladies"???
Apr. 22, 2011 11:16 am
LOL - Mike. It was all in good fun! You were a trooper Mike. :)
Apr. 22, 2011 4:46 pm
Carrie, we just learned from Baking Nana that you were going to be out of town for a few days, and I think you need to know that people are having a wild party here at your blog and gettin' it all messed up! There will be bottles, plastic cups and cheese doodles all over the floor by the time you get back!
Apr. 22, 2011 5:06 pm
You all are wonderful for doing this for our Cindy! I slipped something in the mail to her today. A contribution as well. She is a special lady!
Apr. 22, 2011 5:07 pm
Chef Luigi say his prayers for Sweet Cindy.
Apr. 22, 2011 5:28 pm
LOL - Marcella! Party On!
Apr. 22, 2011 5:28 pm
Thank you Valley Girl and Luigi. Indeed - Cindy is a sweet heart!
Apr. 22, 2011 7:06 pm
I think it's wonderful that people on AR are so generous, but I feel kind of like you're putting pressure on people to donate by listing the names of everyone. If someone who has been on AR for a long time and is very active on the Recipe Buzz decides not to donate for whatever reason, I'm afraid it kind of singles them out because they aren't listed. Please note that I'm not referring to myself- I do post on the Recipe Buzz sometimes but don't really consider myself to be part of the community and while I feel very badly for Danny and his family, I don't feel obligated to donate. Please take this in the spirit it was intended and not as something bad :) I just wanted to point it out since I'm sure your goal was to show your thanks rather than to alienate or pressure anyone! Also I hope I won't be on anyone's "bad" list because I commented.
Apr. 22, 2011 7:24 pm
Hi, Bunny Chef! The list is to keep everything on the table as much as possible. It's not intended to cause good or negative feelings for anybody. By acknowleging the donors, there is an accounting of those who contributed as evidence that money was received. Carrie and Baking Nana were very cautious of collecting money and cleared the collection through AllRecipes.com and also through PayPal. The collection could have easily been stopped by any of these parties. As for recognition or negative comments toward someone who didn't donate, that would be in violation of AllRecipes.com User Agreement. I have gotten to know (in cyberspace) several or many of these donors, for some time now, and they have never harassed or degraded anybody. This is not a social scale in any form. It was put together very carefully. If you follow carries blogs back for three or four posts you will discover that protecting everyone's dignity was one of her objectives- that's why no dollar amounts are disclosed.
Apr. 22, 2011 7:27 pm
Oh, and Bunny Chef? The total dollar ammount is shown only as an element of achievement. No other reason.
Apr. 22, 2011 7:35 pm
hi bunny chef!, if i may answer here. it's voluntary to donate or not. i did donate some money to help with the book, certainly not for reconigization! i wanted my lepps's love remembered. if just 1 book. i agree no reason to post the the contributers names...i did not want my name out there, but i understanad the reason. you and the the rest of this on-line community are a type of a family. we share common interests, share similar goals and have the same things that happen to each one. it's a good-faith type of community that comes from members from around the world. i feel like i know the folks on AR, some anyways, most as well. no one needs to contribute to lepp's. i imagine insurance is adequate. i'm southern...i can't bring a dish or offer a hug..it's just a contribution that i feel will be used well. i understand what you are saying...i choose to help. no one judges you based on how you contribute...you have already...just your comments alone.
Apr. 22, 2011 7:41 pm
Another thing, Bunny Chef! (Wow! I won'shut up!) I haven't counted the number of donors on the list but they are a very small fraction of the AR users. There are millions of AR members who are not donating so you and millions of others are the huge majority. I'll shut up now unless you want me to jump back on the stump.
Apr. 22, 2011 9:07 pm
The Bunny Chef - I am sorry if you feel pressured - that was not the intent at all. If you see the 'blog alert' posts you are free to scroll on by. The truth is - Cindy has been and continues to be a "corner stone" of this foodie community - there are many people who don't frequent the Buzz everyday but know and admire Cindy and Danny. Many people have chosen other avenues to show their support - be it with a thoughtful word or recipe - virtual hugs and prayers or private donations. If I were Cindy's neighbor I would be there to cook, clean or simply hug her tight - unfortunately - we aren't neighbors in a physical sense - but we are Cyber Neighbors - this is a way to show her our support. As Mike pointed out, Carrie did an open blog seeking opinions - this memorial was the consensus of the majority of those interested in "DOING" something.
Apr. 22, 2011 9:08 pm
Oh and Yes - the list of names is essential - these people have all not only donated to show their love and support to Cindy - but they have trusted Carrie and I to follow through and do the right thing. Besides that list is testament to our caring and sheer volume of names acknowledges the truth - "There is strength in numbers." We are a pretty fine example of that! Have a blessed Easter.
Apr. 22, 2011 11:40 pm
Mike, Gderr and Baking Nana- thank you for not calling me a terrible human being for commenting. I really appreciate it. Like I said, I didn't feel pressured, but thought some people might. It sounds like you have a handle on things though. I hope you have a nice Easter, too.
Apr. 23, 2011 1:38 am
Its a great site with great relationships. I still have 2 books here with Gary Derr's name on them! :( Sorry Gar...have NOT forgotten about you. All for love and only for love and no pressure. We co-mingle and make friends, then help them if they need it. I didnt send money to Haiti! Brad Pitt wanted me to but I didnt. All for love by those whom we are affected....

Apr. 26, 2011 6:10 am
Hello Everyone! Thank you so much for keeping this blog bumped up while I was away! We had a very fun Easter, greeted on Thursday night by my 17 m/o grandaughter wearing a "Big Sister" t-shirt and announcing our 5th grandchild is enroute!!! Since her mother spent the entire 5 days puking and gagging, I did all the kitchen work which has left me exhausted while the guys built a backyard playground in time for the egg hunt on Sunday afternoon :)
Apr. 26, 2011 6:10 am
P.S. I kind like being called a "Classy Broad", LOL thanks Frack!
Apr. 26, 2011 11:03 am

Apr. 26, 2011 3:04 pm
Baking Nana & I are working diligently on final pricing, etc today. I suspect we won't hear back from the lady at the Ashley Parks Board until tomorrow as I think she is also the person that does the town's gardening and from our conversation, I think she was out working this afternoon when we spoke.
Apr. 26, 2011 3:05 pm
Rest assured we will keep you posted :)
Apr. 26, 2011 4:51 pm
Excellent work, Carrie and Baking Nana! and, congratulations, as well!
Apr. 26, 2011 5:02 pm
Thanks Mike! We will keep you posted as to how it is all coming together. Thanks for your help and for the party bus too!
Apr. 26, 2011 5:45 pm
I heard Cindy got a parking violation in her mail today for that bus!
Apr. 26, 2011 5:58 pm
She did? The zoning police must have sobered up. I didn't expect they would, this soon. Next time, they'll get extra helpings of the good stuff in the tap!
Apr. 26, 2011 6:03 pm
BTW! Is Pilicangal still passed out? I haven't seen her since the party. She was sure loving that tap!
Apr. 26, 2011 8:12 pm
I haven't seen Pelicangal for a while - maybe she knows we are a bad influence on her. Hope she found her way home.
Apr. 27, 2011 5:44 pm
Wow! Just wow!
Apr. 27, 2011 8:09 pm
Wow is right barb! Woot Woot! Some people on the Buzz mentioned perfering to send cash or check instead of using PayPal. If any of you want to do this - please go to my blog - there are two email addresses - email me and I will send you my address. Thanks so very much! Blessings!
Apr. 30, 2011 8:01 am

About Me
I am currently working as a Social Worker at a men's Emergency Shelter. Prior to this, we spent 15 years living overseas in support of my husband's career. We have lived in Pakistan, Tokyo Japan and Shanghai China as well as a short stay in the USA. We have 5 grown children and 5 beautiful, fun grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
I guess I like to cook main dishes the most and play with things to try to make them better. Problem is, when I get something really great, I can never remember the next time what I had done! I go on baking kicks until we all gain so much weight, I have to stop!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm a bit of control freak, so I like to host rather than be hosted. Often to my detrement, as I get exhausted with pretty bad arthritis. Many of our funniest family stories might include a tale of "Mom was so tired by that point, she burst into tears"! One of those times was with our family tradition of shrimp cocktail as an appetizer to Christmas dinner ~ in error I had bought the super hot seafood sauce and my five little kids couldn't even eat it. Hubby rescued the day, by rinsing their shrimp and making some mild seafood sauce with ketchup and horseradish.
My cooking triumphs
An emergency camping meal. We got to the campsite to find a major storm starting and had to cook fast & furious to get warmed up. As we then planned on leaving early in the morning, I threw sausage, pork, beef and all kinds of veggies into a pot. My husband recently brought that up when we were discussing the show "The best thing I ever ate" Of course, I have never been able to duplicate it :)
My cooking tragedies
November 7/10 Made a leg of lamb roast for dinner. Used some different seasonings in the rub this time, so I thought that was the funny smell. My roast potatoes came out gorgeous, peas & carrots perfect and the grvy a beautiful rich color. We sit down as the minute I take a bite, I know ~ the meat is bad. Dh and Ds carried on for a few minutes until they got nervous too. I spat my first bite out, but had some of the gravy, so I could get a bit sick. But dh and ds are sitting here looking at each other, wondering who will puke first. Thank goodness I just found out where the hospital is in our new hometown! On the bright side, at least didn't have company :)
