About this Cook
I am blessed to live in the beautiful countryside of Central Texas. I love creating stuff; whether it's growing something, cooking something, sewing something, decorating something; that's what I love to do! My great pleasure in life is seeing others enjoy something I've created, and especially when that "something" is something great to eat. :)
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook most anything, but I guess my current favorite is baking bread. Weekends, I love to cook multi-purpose dishes like pulled pork or a big batch of spaghetti with meat sauce. For special dinners, I pan fry talapia in a brown butter sauce (adapted a recipe from Chef John Besh); delish!Another favorite is anything sweet (pound cake, chocolate sheet cake & coconut cream pie come to mind...). I also plan to practice making the fried, almond flavored doughnuts my French grandmother made. Wow, I'm suddenly very hungry! :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is the BEST! I make so many dishes, it's out of control, but that's what I do and now everyone expects it so I guess it has reached tradition status.

White Yeast Loaves
I rarely rate recipes, because I am often dissapointed in even highly rated recipes, but if I could give this more stars, I would! This is absolutely the best white bread I have ever made or eaten. My husband loved it as well, and he is strictly a store-bought white bread boy. ONLY change I made was to substitute butter for the shortening, and added another teaspoon of sugar. The bread baked up beautifully, had a wonderful fine texture, was very soft and, most importantly, was delicious. I will make this regularly from now on. Thanks so much for this great recipe; I've tossed all my other white bread recipes!

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole
This recipe is a WINNER and a classic. I've been making this for 20+ years (except I mash the sweet potatoes rather than cube them), and it is ALWAYS a request whenever I am contributing to a pot luck meal. It's the BEST sweet potato recipe I've ever tasted.

Maple Pecan Shortbread Squares
These are vey good; I don't find them to be too sweet at all. I made them yesterday with only one minor change. I added an additional tablespoon of maple syrup. I will probably double the recipe next time, as my husband has already eaten almost the entire pan! :)
