My favorite things to cook
Soups, stews, cookies, breads, grilled things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Goulash, spagetti and meatballs, lasagne and apple pizza are a few of my favorite meals as a child. My uncle was a fisherman so we always had fresh grilled or pan fried fish, too.
My cooking tragedies
Ugh! I have to re-hash them? I'm not quite ready.

Grandmother's Famous Cranberry Bread
I always love cranberry bread this time of year and will definitely use this recipe again. The bread is delicious! I followed a previous reviewers recommendation of heating the orange juice, mixing the wet ingredients and soaking the chopped cranberries and raisins before mixing with the flour mixture. One change I will make next time is decreasing the raisins to 1/2 cup - 1 1/2 cups was too much and made the bread a little too sweet. I do like the combination of raisins and cranberries, its an interesting and surprising twist on classic cranberry bread. I did split the bread into 2 dark loaf pans, cooked them for 40 minutes and they came out perfect. I may experiment with some chopped pecans and coconut for a little nuttiness. I will be making this bread to my family's Thanksgiving dinner for sure!

Seared Sea Scallops
This recipe is great! After washing the scallops, blot them dry with a paper towel. Toss them in the flour mixture to get a light coating them place them in the hot pan. When you flip the scallops, don't put them in the same place. Move them to a part of the pan that hasn't been cooked on yet (it's hotter and will sear the scallops better - a trick I read in Ad Hoc). 2 minutes on each side was perfect! I will definitely make them again!

Vegetarian Kale Soup
I love this soup! Ive made it twice and think the flavor is perfect. I made a few adjustments this time: I added only 1 can of beans, increased the kale by another handful and added carrots and celery for a more hearty vegetable soup. My boyfriend is an extremely picky eater and he gobbles this up. A huge success in my house! I'm making it again next weekend for a family dinner, can't wait!
