Best Ever Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2012
Really good, makes about 8. Cooked for about 3 minutes on each side. I added more red pepper flakes than the recipe suggested. My mom thought they could have used a little more salt and pepper. Fried in corn oil turned out great, really quick recipe. I didn't premake the patties I just put a blob in the pan and squished it flat with my spoon.

Grilled Corn in Husks

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2012
5 for taste, 3 for the time it takes to prepare them. These do taste really good but it takes a long time to prepare them and they are also pretty messy once they come off the BBQ and you are trying to peel the husks off when they are still hot. The charred husks get everywhere. Cooked for 15 minutes on the BBQ and looked great didn't worry about closing the husks up too tight when cooking that gave the char marks on some of the corn. Looks good and tastes good just lots of work and messy. I put garlic butter on them (roasted garlic, butter, and some garlic salt) and they were a huge hit.

Grilled Portobello with Basil Mayonnaise Sandwich

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
The sauce definetly makes this burger. I am allergic to mustard so I used worcheshire sauce and I didn't have any lemon juice so I just threw in some fresh lemon basil. Tasted great!

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2012
Really good, really easy. I would definetly add more salt next time. I tried 1 1/2tsp of salt and it still was a little bland. They were really fast, rolling them out took the longest but not bad. I made 14 tortillas and they came out perfect for little tacos. Nice and pliable, trick is to cook them really fast. Only 60-90 seconds total in the frying pan.

Corn Chowder I

Reviewed: May 30, 2012
Could have definetly been thicker and I mashed all of the potatoes. I also added 1 cup of celery since I had some to use up, an extra onion, some seasoning salt, and a little fresh parsley and chives for on top. The flavour was pretty good. I used two cans creamed corn and about a cup frozen corn since we had lots of frozen corn we had to use up.

Flavors could be good, but there were way too many breadcrumbs to tell. Next time I will definetly half the breadcrumbs.

Baba Ghanoush

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
This recipe did not work for me It was easy enough to make but it just did not turn out. Maybe this was because we picked a bad eggplant? We weren't really sure what to look for. Even with tweaking this recipe could not be salvaged.

Onion, Garlic, Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
What a delicious bread recipe! I DON'T HAVE A BREAD MACHINE and this still turned out fantastic. Since I was doing this without a bread machine I started with water, sugar, and yeast until it got foamy. Then I added warm milk, butter, and the flour. I stuck mostly to the recipe with a few modifications since I didn't have all of the ingredients. I used 1/2 cup warm water and 1/2 cup warm milk. And instead of using dried onion and garlic I sauteed fresh onion and 1 large clove of garlic. (It came out to be 1/4 cup of cooked onions.) I added the cooked onions and garlic along with the cheese after the first rise (which took about 45 minutes). After punching it down I let it rise until it had doubled (about an hour) then I put it in the oven at 350 for around 25 minutes until the top was golden brown. It came out delicious, the onions didn't make the bread watery and they weren't crunchy like other reviewers commented. I think sauteeing them fixes this problem. I made the loaf into a giant sandwich which we ate on our roadtrip. Everyone couldn't get enough of it.

Chocolate Banana Cream Pie

So easy. Followed recipe exactly, except we used a graham cracker crust since we like it better than pie crust. Yummy.

Cheese Garlic Biscuits II

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
These were really yummy similar to the Red Lobster biscuits. But as some other reviewers said they were heavy. I don't know if I overmixed (I tried really hard not to). I used 1tsp of baking powder, 1 and 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese, and 1 tsp of garlic powder. Next time I'll try it with less butter since they were really buttery. They oozed out butter while they were baking and even though I only put 2 or 3 tablespoons of butter on them at the end it was still too much.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Easy, quick, and good. I used 3 cans of black beans instead of 2 and didn't blend the one can. I also used a chipotle salsa that had chunks of corn in it I just pulsed that in the blender to make it a little less chunky. Turned out great.

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
This was great. Used half and half instead of cream per other's reviews and the advice of my mom. :) The provolone and garlic are definetly the keys. Next time I would add a little more cheddar, and my housemate said we should try it with green onions next time. I think both could make it taste even better.

Easy Teriyaki Chops

Quick and easy. I agree with other reviewers that it was a little salty, but I just dumped in a tablespoon of brown sugar before it was done and it toned down the saltiness and tasted great.

I used 1/2 white sugar, and 1/2 brown sugar reviews per other . I also used 1/4 cup applesauce, and 1/4 cup butter since I was low on butter. They turned out amazing! I will definetly make this again. I looked up on recipe calculator the calorie count and with my modifications they are 143 calories.

A Number One Egg Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
This bread turned out ok, I cooked it for 25min per others reviews, but I think that was still a little too long. It came out really light and pretty but I feel like this bread is missing something. Maybe more sugar or some honey like other reviewers suggested, or more salt like another reviewer mentioned. Overall, I would try making this bread again but definetly with some adjustments. We also found that it was very sticky kneading it at the beginning but by 7 minutes of kneading it gets a lot better.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
Did w/o breadmaker. Let it rise for 45min then punched it down and let it rise for an hour, they came out fluffy and wonderful. To activate the yeast I just added water, some of the sugar, and the yeast then I added the rest after it got foamy.
