Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2014
Yup. Just right. Couldn't find my mom's s-doodle recipe so used this one for Super Bowl. Had to apologize to my mom for preferring this one!

Simple Beef Flavored Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2014
great and quick in a pinch -- added sour cream at the end for a more stroganoff flavor to top bleu-cheese stuffed burgers. as other cooks recommended would saute the onions first and make the roux -- for my first time out of the gate I tossed everything in together and got lumps and undercooked onions. I strained most out but would leave in if cooked through.

Chicken Potpie

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2013
Can't go wrong with this one. I left out the corn as it looked like it was going to be too much filling and thought I could eliminate that starch. Worked perfect! Served with thinly sliced danjou pears as a finger food side...

Garlic Butter Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2013
Great alternative to a sweet dish. Did 3/4 tsp of garlic salt and only 1.5 tsp fresh garlic. Seemed like a lot of butter, but that did t stop me from enjoying it!

Black Bean and Sweet Potato Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2013
so, these are perfect. great alternative to a meat quesadilla; the sweet / savor combo is wonderful as a side dish for a meal. I Took this to a barbeque with salsa and guac on the side, even cold they went over well. all gone!

Mama's Asian Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2013
It was fine, not exceptional, but I don't think it was the recipe. i more than doubled the recipe (and even more sauce) and while trying to get the sauce to thicken the chicken got overcooked -- stewed, really. :( Next time would take out chicken to thicken sauce then toss with thickened sauce.

Bacon Risotto

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2013
Did I do that? Second time to make risotto -- first time to make it right. Flavorful, and felt foolproof, even for me!

Aunt Carol's Spinach and Fish Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
served this for a dinner co-op and got mixed reviews. I liked it a lot, but some people felt the texture of the spinach and fish was over all too "mooshy".

Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
My husband, who is an onion-person, found it too oniony! followed the recipe to a T... for my daughter and me who are Not onion-people, it was simply too strong a flavor.

Candied Almonds

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2012
Yay! wish I had read the reviews before my first effort at this a couple weeks ago -- you ain't kidding "until liquid evaporates!" It worked! (this time) For fun I added a pinch of salt and cayenne in a half batch to see if I could give it a little kick -- not quite enough to distinguish the cayenne, but I'll keep trying!

Pork Marsala

Reviewed: May 7, 2012
New family favorite, definitely going into the repetoire. almost embarrassingly easy (so you can wow your guests / friends without killing yourself) and easily modifiable by using chicken instead of pork. Used marsala cooking wine; daughter and husband both had seconds -- recommend doubling if you have a family of 4 with big appetites.

Porcupines

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
easy and hearty. I doubled the recipe for a food co-op, added an egg for binding. I did the brown and bake which worked fine. After taking out the meatballs I made a roux of tomato sauce and corn starch and whisked it into the baking dish so the sauce was a bit thicker. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and zesty broccoli (from this website)...

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2012
huge hit at our superbowl party and so DANG easy! used the chocolate sauce recipe provided by another reviewer, Bayschick, in lieu of the icing (btw the chocolate sauce recipe would be good on an old shoe! I could have eaten that alone with a spoon!)

great general use fondue recipe -- easy to find all the ingredients (no fancy german liqueurs) -- I add garlic (as do I believe other raters) for the "bite"

Pork in Olive Oil Marinade

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
using suggestions from this site -- cooked til near done and made the sauce a reduction with which I then tossed the pork til it was finished. As my husband despises cilantro I instead put half the amount in the reduction to cook down, and sprinkled the pork at midpoint with the garlic, 3/4 tsp fresh ground coriander, and a tsp of parsley. He ate it all, and I still got the cilantro that I love.... served it with cous cous flavored with olive oil infused with lime.
