Penne with Spicy Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2013
Very tasty and easy to make. Makes a lot! We followed the recipe to a tea - except we didn't use vodka. We didn't have it and it was a big expense. We subbed water for it and still thought it was great!

Ultimate Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
These were very good and probably would be even better minus a few of my mistakes. I made this for Thanksgiving. I'm used to roast by green beans because sometimes steaming can make them soggy - especially since I had to reheat these. I did steam them but just for a little bit. Then I promptly forgot to add lemon. Later, after taking them to the other house, I realized I forgot the bacon. Still, they were delicious so I'm sure they would be even better if I had managed to pay attention

Original Chex® Party Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
Still trying to find the original. I've read so much and tried different varieties. I used to have it and now can't find it. I followed the advice left by many and doubled the seasonings - still I'm finding it a bit bland. I also roasted it but will try in microwave too. This was good, it's just not the original like Chex is saying it is....

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
Hooray! This was a big hit. It was easy to do - except storing the turkey in the brine. I finally resorted to an oven bag to put the turkey & brine in and then placed all of that in a clean bucket. My gravy was salty and I tried to save it with a potato which helped. Still, not a big problem - I just warned everyone not to salt anything. The turkey was very moist!. I followed recipe exactly except I added some 1/2 cup of chicken broth I had left over that I didn't just want to throw out. Thanks for a great recipe!

Basic Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2013
This was a great dinner. If you make it as recipe states, it takes awhile. If you use it with leftover spaghetti, it's fast and a great way to revisit the same meal. I made as recipe stated except used less spaghetti, so it was a little soupy and not as much baked as it should have been - but we like more sauce so we thought it was great. The kids went back for seconds and wanted it for lunch the next day. That is a big hit in my opinion!

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2013
FINALLY - a mac & cheese recipe that is creamy, not dry. I followed the recipe exactly except for tripling it because I was having a party. I actually didn't stir constantly as it said to do because I kept getting interrupted and it still worked out great. Yes, it seems VERY soupy when you put it in your casserole dish - don't panic or change anything. It comes out looking a little soupy too but it's fine. As it cools, it thickens and is just right. I do believe this will be the first mac and cheese that may actually reheat and taste decent for leftovers. Amazing. I've been searching for this recipe for years.....

BBQ Country Style Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2013
Very good. I made a LOT of ribs - about 8 pounds on 2 trays. I had to increase the temperature to cook them just to be sure and they came out great. The juices spilled over in my oven - not fun- and they weren't done cooking so I had to drain them early. Next time, I'll keep a closer eye on them and drain them halfway through. My ribs were a little fatty and I wish I had take the time to trim them prior to cooking. That would have helped with juice and presentation. Still, it was very good. I followed recipe exactly except the cooking temperature. The lemons seemed strange to me but the worked and I didn't notice a strong lemon flavor to the meat either.

The Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
Well, I have to say that I'm impressed. I was nervous about adding ranch. I was nervous about cooking the potatoes whole too. But, happily to my surprise, it was all delicious. I halved the recipe since it was just a side dish for dinner but my husband made the dressing at full amounts. So, my potatoes were a little drowned in the sauce but it was still really good. Next time, I'll make sure the whole recipe is halved or regular!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
Very good. I couldn't find plum tomatoes in a can so I used diced instead. Tasted great and didn't notice any difference. I also just cut the sausage links into pieces and cooked it. My kids like chunks of meat and it cuts the time down in preparation. The sauce does appear very runny when cooking but once pasta is added, it was the right amount. This makes a TON. It tasted good reheated too and I was pleasantly surprised by that! Next time, I will drain grease from sausage links.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
This was very good. I made it for an adult pot-luck and had not much left for my own kids to try. When it came out of the oven, it seemed soupy to me and I was very concerned. However, upon it setting up a bit, it was not too runny - just in a couple of corners and the texture was great.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Very good. It was a little salty for our tastes but that's an easy adjustment. Super easy to make. Our children loved it too.

Apple Enchilada Dessert

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
I thought this was okay. It tasted exactly as I thought it would - I guess I was just thinking it would taste better and look fancier. The tortilla texture was a little flat. I think I would try this with a puff pastry instead. Still though, it had good flavor and was very easy to make!

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
I thought this was really good. I had to substitute the vegetable since my store didn't have snow peas! I used a frozen bag that had snow peas in it. I want to try again following the recipe exactly. It was tasty.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
Well this is probably the strangest review I have ever written. I'm giving this 5 stars but I never actually tasted the salad. How is this possible? I served it at a gathering of 10 women (including myself). I had doubled the recipe. However, when I finally served myself, there was none left. I can only assume it really awesome! I did taste the dressing and thought it was good but I guess I'll wait to the next time. Geez - must be delicious!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
I thought these were great. It takes a little longer to prepare in the morning than I would have liked - waiting 30 minutes to cook - but it was worth it. My husband thought they were okay. He likes the char taste of ribs on a grill. Next time I think we'll fire up the grill at the end so we have the best of both worlds for our tastes. I made the barbecue dressing as stated with no changes. It was great but I can see that you could obviously substitute your own if you have a favorite. The sauce was a little runny for my tastes due to the crockpot all day so I added some bottle sauce to my plate and dipped the ribs in as desired. Addition - I made these a 2nd time and it was great. I used country style ribs and they still came out terrific. My husband like them better this time. I totally flubbed the sauce and it still was good. I was halving recipe but ended up doubling the Worcestershire sauce. Still came out decent with my mistake.

Mom's Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2013
This dish is okay. I think I discovered that I don't like chicken cacciatore. It has nothing to do with the recipe, I'm just not a fan. I wish I had read the review that stated her grandma made this "stew". That would have told me a lot, since I don't care for stew. Glad I tried it though.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
Well, the chicken is most and there's lots of garlic flavor. All plusses! We just thought a bit of salt would have been a nice touch. Will definitely make again and try that as well. I agree with another review - don't skimp the parmesan. That adds a great dimension to the flavor.

Peanut Chewies

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
Well, I thought I they would taste like a Payday bar as another reviewer mentioned. It didn't - at lest not to me. However, when I got that notion out of my head, I realized it did taste good. It was very peanut buttery but still light tasting. It was also stretchy due to the marshmallows and the mixture on top. I only added 1 cup of salted peanuts since it was optional - next time I'll add 2. If you like peanut butter - you'll like these.

B.L.T. Salad with Basil Mayo Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
Wow - that is all I can say. The homemade croutons put this over the top. The dressing is simple but great. An awesome bonus of the dressing is it doesn't have to be refrigerated or made need time to chill. You can just make it and use it - very nice! Cutting the basil took a long time but then again, I'm not so good at chopping basil. I ended up adding some dry basil just to help out and it was still great. Thanks for the amazing recipe!
