This is a great basic recipe. After reading the reviews, I cut the salt by 1/4 teaspoon, added 1/4 cup flour, used butter-flavored shortening so the cookies wouldn't spread too much and become flat, used 1 teaspoon each of baking soda and baking powder. I used 2 1/2 cups quick cooking oats instead of 3 cups because I was afraid the dough would be too thick with the shortening and the extra nuts and chocolate chips I like to add. These cookies came out perfectly chewy with just the right amount of crunch on the edge. They stayed soft even after they cooled. I will be adding this one to my go-to recipe box.
