Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
I made these with Italian seasoned lean ground turkey and left out the pepper flakes and hot sauce (for my daughter). My carnivorous husband didn't even know they weren't made with beef! The whole (picky) family loved them. Thanks so much!

Peach Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
I was thrilled at how well this pie turned out! It seemed like a good, basic recipe, and it was. I also added a few things, per others' reviews. So thanks, everyone! I added 1 T cornstarch, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. I only had three and a half peaches, so I used a 12oz bag of frozen strawberries, too. I baked the pie at 450ºF for the first 15 minutes, then reduced the oven temperature to 350ºF for the last half hour. After turning the oven off I left the pie in the warm oven to set. (Thanks for those tips, too!) The pie is amazing! Thanks!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2011
This potpie is delicious! I followed the recipe exactly, but halved the filling since there are only three of us (and I only had a half pound of cooked chicken on hand). To avoid having a half-filled potpie, I divided and rolled out my pie crust to fit six muffin pan cavities, with some crust left over for the tops. I used leaf cookie cutters to make the top crusts for the mini potpies. Happy Fall! Thanks for the recipe!!

Plum Blueberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
I really enjoyed the plums on the top of this cake. The cake itself, however, tasted like a mild corn bread to me. I expected a lighter, sweeter flavor. This is definitely worth a try for the taste of the plums alone; they are beautiful on top of the cake, too. However, if you're looking for a sweet dessert, maybe a different batter is in order.

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
Mmmm... Just like Mom used to make! (We grew up low-fat, so I halved the butter, and it was perfect.) Thanks for a truly traditional mashed potato recipe!

Chili I

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
I followed this recipe exactly, and was impressed with the results. My husband loved the chili, and said it tasted like Wendy's. (Believe it or not, that IS a compliment!) The flavor is nicely complex - not as pedestrian as Wendy's, in my opinion. I thought there was a little too much cocoa, but I'm not a chili connoisseur. Overall, I think I would make this again for my husband, but reduce the cocoa a bit. Thanks for the recipe!

Paula's Bread Sticks

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
These were really good. I twisted some, and tied others into knots. Then I topped them with sausage and garlic. They were great with some marinara on the side. I reserved some dough to make cinnamon twists with, and my daughter loved them. Thanks for a yummy and easy to follow recipe!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2012
This bread is moist and delicious. (Even having substituted half of the oil for applesauce.) The pumpkin taste is perfectly balanced with the spices, making the overall flavor warm and spicy, sweet without being cloyingly sweet. My mom considered hiding her loaf from my brother. (I brought her more!)

Quick and Easy Home Fries

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
What a great way to use up potatoes! I had a few (they were getting soft, and still turned out with a perfect texture!) that I didn't want to spend a lot of time on, and tried this recipe on a whim. I sliced the potatoes into traditional french fry-shaped sticks, and followed the recipe exactly. The fries were a little brown on the side that got 10 minutes covered, and a few were soft when the batch was done, so next time I might start stirring a little sooner. Other than that, the recipe was amazing! My husband loved them, saying they were as good as the restaurant fries we had eaten last night. Easy and delicious - thank you!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2012
These were good cookies - I made them tonight for a friend's birthday. While there was nothing wrong with the taste, the cookies weren't exceptional, either. Nothing really special in the flavor... I also found that the texture was much better when I increased the cooking time by 2 to 3 minutes. The cookies came out crisp on the edges rather than crumbly, which was an improvement since mine were pretty flat. I might try these again with added spices or with other reviewers' adjustments. Thanks for a good basic recipe!
