I cried the first time I made this recipe! It was so ridiculously good. I figured I could never match my grandma's twice-a-year-made-on-paper-bags dumplings. Boy, was I wrong!
We make this now at least once every 1-2 weeks. The last time I made it, I was the last to come home from work (had to work late) and I forgot that I had made it for dinner. (I must have been pretty tired. What a shame!) By the next day, I remembered and came home excited to eat leftovers only to find there was none left!! I was so sad!
When I make this, I do not add veggies. That seems weird to me. I also use all chicken thighs. I will do two packages of chicken thighs (about 10 thighs), chicken broth, soup, butter, and spices. I try to start it around 10am so the chicken only cooks about 6 hours on low. Don't overcook. The chicken will be tough if you do. I also cube the chicken before cooking. I don't like shredded chicken. Yuck!
When DH gets home, he adds the biscuits (the best part!). The cheaper and more off-brand, the better! The commenter that added only 1 can is NUTS! We add THREE cans and would add more if we didn't run out of room in the crockpot! And, if you're like me, you're probably thinking "CANNED BISCUITS?? NO WAY!" I did too. Even 30 minutes into watching them cook. But have faith! They are sooooo good!!! They do not taste or look like biscuits in the end.
After cooking for another hour-ish, dinner is ready! Every time I make this, my family is SO HAPPY!
