Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
I tripled this recipe and it fed our family of five. Made alterations suggested by milesofsmiles79 (rice noodles, crunchy peanut butter, 2 eggs scrambled in with the green onions, topped with cilantro). I did not add the red pepper and did double the sugar to make the recipe more kid friendly. I think my family wants me to make it again tomorrow! Thanks.

Daddy's 'If They'da had This at the Alamo we would'ha WON!' Texas Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
This is the BEST chili I have ever made! My husband and son cannot handle beans in chili so I was so happy to find this recipe. Changes: Scaled recipe to five, so don't use my changes unless you account for that!! I used olive oil instead of bacon drippings, chipotle chili powder instead of ground red chili pepper (also I DID use the regular chili powder called for), regular paprika instead of Hungarian, dried cilantro instead of Mexican oregano, 1 can of French onion soup, 2 t. salt instead of 1 1/2 t., one can of ro-tel pureed instead of jalapeno, and when I added the masa harina flour at the end I added one can of CREAMED corn. I tasted before and after the corn and there was a HUGE difference as far as my personal preferences go. Also, if you have children or anyone sensitive to the spiciness, the cream corn seemed to take the edge of the heat from the pepper.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Perfection! The only changes I made were to add 1/8 t. nutmeg and some lemon zest. I frosted with Cream Cheese Icing II to which I also added some lemon zest and a few drops of lemon juice. This was the best carrot cake we have ever eaten!

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2009
Wonderful, chewy cookies! AS others before me did, I used a T. of fresh lemon juice along with some grated lemon zest since I didn't have the extract. Also, these cookies were quick to make since I ignored the recipe and did not refrigerate the dough. I did, however, use cold butter and threw that in the food processor with the sugar, etc. and the butter being cold kept everything firm. CAUTION: Do NOT throw in the entire amount of sugar listed in the recipe when making the dough. Half of it is supposed to be reserved to roll your dough balls into. (I did not need more than 1/3 of the amount of sugar listed to roll my dough balls into)

Blueberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2009
Superb! I have tried many blueberry coffee cakes and this was by far the best one! I doubled the recipe--then I doubled my doubled crumb topping (four times the original amounts). I used 1/2 ground oats for the flour to make it a bit more nutritious and flavorful for breakfast. I used brown sugar instead of white in my topping. I took the suggestion from another reviewer to blend the cream cheese right in with the butter, sugar and eggs. I actually added a bit more cream cheese than called for, using a whole 8 oz. package in my doubled recipe. I think the cream cheese in the batter is what sets this coffee cake apart from the others.

Maple Hot Chocolate

Used cinnamon extract instead of maple and it made a wonderful Mexican hot chocolate! I think melting the marshmallows and adding the butter really set this apart from the others. Thanks for the recipe!

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
If you have young children stick to the original recipe. Many reviewers are recommending replacing the tomatillas with salsa verde. That would have been way to spicy for my kids. Having said that, this chili is fantastic! We put sour cream, cheese and chips in ours when we served it. Yum! Thanks for the recipe!

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2008
I've tried 'em all and this is the best chicken soup I've ever made! I only used 8 cups of broth. I added sliced carrots. Did not use cornstarch or water. I put three large frozen breasts in the crockpot and dumped a large carton of broth over them and added the rest of the ingredients. Right before serving we shredded the chicken and added a few cups of cooked, skinny egg noodles. It was to die for!

Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
I use my ice cream maker several times a week and this is the best ice cream I have ever made! I cannot keep my spoon out of the machine while it's churning! I am going to weigh 300 lbs.--I cannot stop eating this stuff! I better limit how often I make it! I used natural peanut butter, BTW.

Sweet Potato and Turkey Shepherd's Pie

This is really tasty! I made it with chicken breasts sliced up really thin. I did not have the browning sauce so I didn't use any. I served cranberry sauce on the side. Yummy and healthy! Thanks for posting.

Oatmeal Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
Who would have ever thought that oatmeal could make such a delicious cake! I doubled it for two cakes and used coconut oil instead of butter for the cake part of the recipe but I used butter for the broiled icing. Oh, yeah...by mistake I used more brown sugar and less white sugar in the cake batter but it was still outstanding! Thanks for the recipe!

Southern Sweet Potato Bread with Pecans

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
I always forget to review recipes..but no this one...not this time!! How delicious!!! While I want to give credit to the recipe, I did make a few changes that may have put my results over-the-top. I used coconut oil for health reasons but I think it leads to better baked products. Secondly, my mashed sweet potatoes were from last nights dinner and already had a little brown sugar, maple syrup, orange and cinnamon extracts, butter, nutmeg and cream. Also, I used more of the sweet potato mixture than was called for just because I wanted to use it all up. I would say I used 25% more potato than the recipe called for. I also put in a smidge more sugar than required. Then, after spraying my stoneware bread pans, I placed a mixture of sugar and cinnamon over the spray before putting the batter into the pans. I used no nuts or raisins. I put dried cranberries in one loaf but not the other. The taste difference was negligable. Folks, I baked delicious quick breads often and this was the best I have ever, ever made. The winner! Thanks for sharing this recipe!!!

Ozark Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
I think the name would be more accurate if it were called something like blueberry-cran pie. There is a heavy cranberry influence so a blueberry pie "purist" might be put off by the not-so-subtle cranberry flavor. Now, having said that, the tangy flavor is wonderful! The thing that really sets this pie apart for me is the way it holds together. This is not a runny pie. Once it is cooled off it holds together almost like a gel. This is a nice firm pie! We took this pie along with several other desserts to a Christmas get-together and this pie was a HUGE hit! We did not follow the crust recipe (used the sheets of pre-made pie dough by Pillsbury) so did not end up using the mace, etc. Also, forgot to put butter under the crust. Didn't hurt a thing! I always glaze my double crust fruit pies with milk and then a nice sprinkling of white sugar. I did that with this pie and the results were fabulous. This will be our only blueberry pie that we will make. Thank you for submitting it to Allrecipes.com!!

Sausage Potato Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
YUMMY!! My family went crazy over this recipe! I made some adjustments based on other suggestions. 7 sliced peeled potatoes, 2 packages turkey smoked sausage, 1 (40% larger than normal sized) cream of mushroom soup,1 can condensed french onion soup, large onion chopped, lots of garlic powder. Put it in the crockpot til well cooked! Will be on the regular rotation...

Tex-Mex Burger with Cajun Mayo

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2006
The search for the perfect home burger is over! Oh my! These were fabulous! I pre-grilled my buns in olive oil on the griddle while I was making my burger mix. Then I stuck them back in their bag to stay warm and moist while I griddled the burgers. The spicy mayo just makes these burgers. Thank you! Thank you!!

Coconut Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2005
I made these for Easter. I used two large (29 oz.) cans of sweet potatoes drained. As one reviewer suggested I doubled the butter and syrup (used real maple syrup). Assembled them into a crock Sat. night and stuck it in the fridge uncooked. When I awoke Sun. morning I popped the crock into the crockpot and cooked on low. It was ready when we returned from church 4-5 hours later. For the amount of work involved (comparing it to other sweet potato recipes where you have to use a mixer, etc.)I was surprised at how delicious these were! Will make again (at the request of my 6 sons and husband) many, many times--especially holidays.

Best hot chocolate I have made and I have made several listed on this site. I did reduce the sugar but then turned around and added some Starbuck's mint syrup which is sweet. Heavenly! So rich it tastes like melted candy bars. Very creamy! Mmmm....
