About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I would have ,to say desserts now. I love to take a couple beautiful pies to a church dinner. I experiment with salads and never fix the same one. Changing up ingredients gives you a chance to try different things. I strife to make a meal appealing to look at without spending too much time on it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern cooking is my style here in Kentucky. Although I am not big on fried food except chicken. I fix some mighty fine fried chicken and gravy, it has been quite awhile since I made scratch biscuits. I will not fry fish or pork chops, there are simply too many good ways to fix all other meats. Seasonings can change meat from one night to the next and you would never be tired of any of it. I miss not cooking but I would have to eat it. I like to eat but I am not keen on tossing food out, only have a small dog, no pigs to feed.I used to do alot of canning but those days are over. I plant half a dozen tomato plants every year but no garden. Pork, apples and sauerkraut is my favorite to eat. I like to have pork and beans and mashed potatoes with it. My favorite dessert would be pies and cheesecake. I have made a whole lot of cookies and fudges.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph would have to be Christmas. I would start at the end of October getting in all of the ingredients, it was costly but everyone wanted homemade goodies for Christmas gifts. Family, friends, neighbors and of course the mailman. I had people on my list that I only saw at Christmas when they got their goodies but I loved it.Many years of making these packages had me preparing all year and picking up the right sizes. I made almost 100 packages every year and had 6-10 on hand for someone I forgot or just happened to stop by. It was alot of money and work but I loved every minute of it. That was Christmas to me. It started it one year when I did not have any money to buy gifts so i just baked cookies, candies and fudge. The next year I was in better shape financially but family and friends wanted the goodie package. I have many fond memories of all the preparation and then the job of putting it all in containers and evenly distributed. The leftovers went to the Soup Kitchen.
My cooking tragedies
I can not think of any tragedies now but I will add this at a later time.

Pineapple Angel Food Cake I
I love this recipe A great stand by. My kitchen always has at least 1 box of Angel Food Cake Mix and a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple. I always make mine in a tube pan. DO NOT GREASE THE PAN.Put it together and when it comes out of the oven hang the pan on something so that it can cool upside down. I use the same glass bowl that I mix the batter in If you have ever made ANGEL FOOD CAKE DO WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR YEARS. There is another Angel food recipe that uses canned Pumpkin, it is awesome also.

One Dish Chicken Bake
This was the worst recipe I have used from this site. I should of known better. TOO SALTY but look at the ingredients, and so many good reviews.

Crispy Marshmallow Balls
Fruger, thank you. I didn't have to freeze marshmallows. I made 2 10 ounce bags. With enough carmel mixture left to add to the left over rice cereal. The boys took care of that part! I made this exactly as you submitted. I thought the tongs worked very well. Hardly any mess to it. Just what my packages needed!!
