About this Cook
My name is Candy and I'm in Austin, Texas. My husband, who I married in March 1993, and I have two children, a boy born 10/2000 and a girl born 02/2003. I love to cook (and eat) and have been a member here since Jan. 2002. It's a great site with great people and amazing recipes! I love reading the reviews and getting tips from those that have made it already.
My favorite things to cook
I dearly love to bake and make mexican dishes. Anything in the crockpot is wonderful as well :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas morning is always a crockpot breakfast that is put on the night before so it's all ready in the morning. It's great to not worry about cooking in the morning, I love spending that time lounging with the family.
My cooking triumphs
I won 1st prize in a family freeze off with the Lemon Ice I recipe I got from this site.
My cooking tragedies
That would be that sugar cookie icing I got from here that would NOT get "ungooey" ;)

Ham Roll Ups II
Good, made for a party and they went well. I also cut up the green onion rather than using the stalk. Great flavor.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread II
My kids wolfed this down... my husband has declared no other banana bread will be made in this house unless it's this one. Yeah, they liked it :) The only thing I changed is I used baking soda instead of powder, because I was out :)

Beets with Onion and Cumin
I love beets. Seriously. I know that makes me weird, but that's okay. My husband doesn't like them, I usually just boil and season. So I go on a quest to find something that he might like... he said they were "okay" but my 4 year old ate two large helpings! We didn't have tomatoes so I substituted tomato sauce and I didn't have cumin seeds so I used the stuff in the jar. Overall, I think it was good, I think it would've been better with fresh tomatoes, but it was a keeper. I put some of the sauce over my oregano chicken I made that same night and it was devine!
