Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2014
Oh dear me. This was phenomenal and I found it quite difficult to stop eating. I halved the recipe, and since I didn't have any pepper, omitted it. I also added two chopped hard-boiled eggs, because that's the way my mom always made macaroni salad, and---what can I say?---I love it that way. Very, very good!

Delicious! Makes wonderful gravy. Added mushrooms around the chicken while it roasted--cooked up just right. Thanks for a great recipe!

Delightful pie. I was so excited to try this! Added 1/4 C of flour, 1/4 C white sugar and 1/4 C brown sugar to the apples. I think I'll make this again.

Lemon Bread

Reviewed: May 22, 2014
Per another's review, I added 2/3 C lemon juice, which was a good call. I love super lemony breads. I didn't have any walnuts, so I used pecans. I'm still on the fence about adding nuts to a bread that just seems to beg me to use poppyseeds instead. :) Left off the glaze because I just didn't feel like making it. Either way, this is delicious and my husband has been really enjoying it for his breakfasts this week.

Golden Egg Loaves (or Braids)

Reviewed: May 1, 2014
I was seriously salivating when I smelled this baking in the oven. This is a fantastic, versatile bread! I didn't have any wheat gluten, so I simply had to do without. I also ran out of honey after about 4 T, so I left as-is, and the bread was divine. If you're like me and don't have a stand mixer with a dough hook, don't fret. I mixed all this up very successfully with a hand mixer and then kneaded on a lightly floured surface. What the directions don't tell you is to remove the bread from the pans immediately after baking. I learned from another bread recipe that allowing the bread to sit in the pans can likely form mold on the bottom of the loaf down the road. Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack, and then bag it up. I kept one loaf out and froze the other. I can't wait to have a grilled cheese with this bread! Great recipe!!

Quick Spicy Sausage Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2014
This is quite delicious and VERY filling. I used ground mild Italian sausage and, since I didn't have any evaporated milk, omitted that. Don't think we missed out on anything. Maybe next time I'll pair this with some warm onion rolls. Perfect soup for a windy, chilly evening. I'll definitely make this again. Thanks!

English Muffin Loaves

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2014
Mmm! At first I thought, "What? No kneading, no waiting for the yeast to bubble, no bread flour?" like other bread recipes. But this came out just right. Soooo much better than store-bought English muffins, which are---compared to making this easy and delicious recipe---$$$. Will make again and again! (Take that, Thomas'!!) :)

Pork Butt Roast with Vegetables

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2014
Made this successfully for Easter dinner. Used a pork loin instead of roast and beef stock with water instead of just water. Covered and cooked for three hours; then added carrots and potatoes and cooked uncovered for additional hour. Everything came out tender and delicious. Looking forward to leftovers.

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2014
Followed the recipe to the letter. I was going to do what one reviewer did and put it in the crock pot for 20 hours, but to have for dinner, I'd have had to start it at like 2 a.m. Not happening. These were full of flavor, had the right texture, and were, overall, quite good. My mom especially liked them. :)

Boston Cream Pie II

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2014
This tastes delicious. I'm docking a star because this cake should really be baked with a lining of parchment. It totally fell apart when I tried to take it out. Ugh. But I managed to salvage it and put it all together. Very delicious cake. Thanks!

Baked Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2014
How can anyone do fried chicken nuggets when this recipe exists? These were great! I couldn't stop eating them. Followed the recipe to the letter and, as so many had recommended, placed these on a cooling rack to bake. Increased time to 25 minutes--nuggets were golden brown and crispy. Mmm. Thanks for a great recipe!!

Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2014
This was a delicious, lemony poppy seed bread. I'm a bit disappointed in the glaze, hence the 4 stars. I added 1/2 C lemon juice and some lemon rind to the batter. Anyway---quite tasty, and I'll be making it again!

Chef John's Mushroom Gravy

Mmmm! I made this tonight to go over some mashed red potatoes. This was dashed good. Not as thick as some gravies, but the potatoes just soaked this up. Followed to the letter and it's a keeper!
