Hearty Turkey Stew with Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
I made this stew last year for Boxing Day with leftover turkey from the Rosemary Turkey recipe on this site. It was good but, it was a bit bland. This year, I made the Michiganer's Turkey from this site and used left over white and dark meat from it. I also made quite a few substitutions and additions: Veggies - 3 red potatoes, frozen corn, frozen peas and frozen baby carrots. Spices - In addition to the 1/4 tsp. marjoram, I used 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning, 1 tsp. dried basil, 1 tsp. onion powder (because i didn't have any onions!), 1 tsp fresh parsley, 1 clove of fresh garlic,1 bay leaf and fresh ground pepper to taste. The flavour was excellent and exactly what I had hoped for. This recipe is good made as is but, it's better as a base recipe to add your own personal flavourings to. With additions a 5/5, without additions a 4/5. Serve with fluffy biscuits recipe from this site - the perfect accompaniment!

Veronica's Hot Spinach, Artichoke and Chile Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2013
I modified the recipe a bit right away so maybe this rating is a bit high - I used only one pack of cream cheese, the written amount of mayo and added 1/3 cup of sour cream. I also used only a 1/2 pack of frozen spinach (chopped fine) and a 1/2 can of artichokes also chopped fine. I didn't use any canned chilies but, I did usea 1/2 tsp of cayenne powder and 1/2 fresh jalapeno. Finish with mozzarella on the top and serve with warm naan bread...yummy!!!

Fluffy Pancakes

Perfect homemade pancakes! I've tried several pancake recipes and they've always ended up flat and spongey or off in some other way. These were fluffy and light, perfect after the first try!

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
Amzing!!! I can't believe I made better Chinese food than a restaurant. As others suggested, I didn't add the veggies or pork until just before serving s othey remained crispy. For my veggies I just used onions and red pepper. So delicious and dangerous..you'll want to make this less-than-healthy dish again and again!!

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
Delicious! I did make some changes because I didn't have all the ingredients. I used red pepper, onion, portabello mushrooms, goat cheese and grilled Italian turkey sausage. I definitely recommend marinating the veggies in olive oil, balsamic, fresh rosemary and a dash of sea salt. Also. the more red pepper you use, the better!

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
Turned out exactly how I had imagined! I omitted celery and used sliced white bread. I used exactly the amount of brother called for and thought the consistency was perfect - not too moist, not too dry.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
I gave these cupcakes 5/5 because they were fabulous but, the flavour is not red velvet. I read several reviews befor making these and decided to make adjustments right away. I made buttermilk - 1/2 cup milk & 1 1/2 tsp. white vinegar, used 1/4 cup more sugar and a 1/4 cup less flour and 3/4 butter & 1/4 shortening because I ran out of butter. Not sure if the original recipe would've tasted much different but the last thing I wanted was dry cupcakes. These cupcakes were so moist, perfectly sweet and just delicious! The icing was also amazing. I made them for Easter and everybody loved them! Recipe made 36 cupcakes and there was just enough icing.

Savory Vegetable Beef Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
Amazing! First off, I did make some changes. I omitted the Italian dressing and the flour step. Instead I used 2 tbsp. of cornstarch at the end(smoothened in a bit of cold water). I also doubled the oregano and added 1 tsp. each of marjoram, savory and red pepper flakes, in addition to 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary. I like lots of veggies so I added sweet potatoe, corn and peas, and used red, yellow and orange peppers (1/3 each) instead of green. Lastly, I used only 1/2 the tomatoe sauce that it called for and that was plenty! It was delish! A perfect stew!

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I stuck to the recipe 100% other than cutting it down to make 6 biscuits instead of 12...Turned out amazing! Perfect! These biscuits are perfectly light and fluffy. I may try with 1/2 shortening, 1/2 butter next time just to try but, I didn't find the recipe as is bland at all. Thanks for this recipe!

This turkey turned out excellent! I did brine it the night before as per many of your suggestions. I'm glad I did because I used some leftover to make a turkey stew and the meat was still tender!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2014
Simply amazing! I did make some adjustments right away - 1/2 cup instead of 2/3 cup of sugar, smaller dough balls, used the end of a wooden spoon to make the indents (perfect!) and I chilled the cookies for 20 minutes prior to baking, (zero flattening, looked just like in the photo!). The only thing I would do differently next time is to add more jam to the indents part way through baking as the jam does sink. No big deal though, I just ended up topping up the indents after they were done baking. I think if I hadn't made adjustments I'd be giving the recipe 4 stars. The cookies would be too sweet and definitely would have flattened out and not looked nearly as "professional".

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2014
Fantastic pot pie, providing you make a few minor adjustments. 1) I've made the recipe as is and it is very bland - cook chicken & veggies in broth, add garlic and onion powder as well as some poultry seasoning. 2) add potato and corn to the filling 3) filling is enough for 2 deep dish pies so make extra sauce and just make 2. This is a foolproof recipe that's quick and easy to make. My toddlers love it and so does my husband!

Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
I made this recipe exactly as is except I added some cinnamon to the mix and cinnamon sugar on top. They were amazing! I made them for a baby shower and everyone loved them. So much so that the mommy to be woke up a few mornings later craving my scones! I made a faux clotted cream and raspberry preserve to go along with them... Yum!
