Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
I stuck to the recipe, used small mushrooms and some prosciutto and these turned out very good! I made the stuffing a few nights in advance and prepared the mushrooms the day before serving. Everybody loved them! If you like spice, definitely add more cayenne. I wouldn't make this recipe with large mushrooms though because the filling is quite creany..

Hearty Turkey Stew with Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
I made this stew last year for Boxing Day with leftover turkey from the Rosemary Turkey recipe on this site. It was good but, it was a bit bland. This year, I made the Michiganer's Turkey from this site and used left over white and dark meat from it. I also made quite a few substitutions and additions: Veggies - 3 red potatoes, frozen corn, frozen peas and frozen baby carrots. Spices - In addition to the 1/4 tsp. marjoram, I used 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning, 1 tsp. dried basil, 1 tsp. onion powder (because i didn't have any onions!), 1 tsp fresh parsley, 1 clove of fresh garlic,1 bay leaf and fresh ground pepper to taste. The flavour was excellent and exactly what I had hoped for. This recipe is good made as is but, it's better as a base recipe to add your own personal flavourings to. With additions a 5/5, without additions a 4/5. Serve with fluffy biscuits recipe from this site - the perfect accompaniment!

Allie's Delicious Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
Amazing! I loved this mac and cheese! The sauce turned out perfectly. It was just cheesy enough. I used medium cheddar, old white cheddar and jack cheeses because I find mozzarella too bland. I also didn't use ham.

Savory Vegetable Beef Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
Amazing! First off, I did make some changes. I omitted the Italian dressing and the flour step. Instead I used 2 tbsp. of cornstarch at the end(smoothened in a bit of cold water). I also doubled the oregano and added 1 tsp. each of marjoram, savory and red pepper flakes, in addition to 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary. I like lots of veggies so I added sweet potatoe, corn and peas, and used red, yellow and orange peppers (1/3 each) instead of green. Lastly, I used only 1/2 the tomatoe sauce that it called for and that was plenty! It was delish! A perfect stew!

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
Delicious! I did make some changes because I didn't have all the ingredients. I used red pepper, onion, portabello mushrooms, goat cheese and grilled Italian turkey sausage. I definitely recommend marinating the veggies in olive oil, balsamic, fresh rosemary and a dash of sea salt. Also. the more red pepper you use, the better!

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
This stew turned out OK, not bad but not nearly as amazingly delicious as I had hoped..It's a bit bland, even with the dijon. Some red chili pepper flakes and sweet potatoes might help!

Janine's Best Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
I made this recipe twice in a few days to get rid of some nearly black bananas! This is a good base recipe but, with some tweaking it can be perfect! The first time I followed the recipe exactly except I did add in a 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips. The bread came out way too sweet and a bit dry. The second time though, was a charm! I cut the sugar back to 2/3 cup, added 1 tsp of vanilla extract, added an additional egg and put the chocolate chips on top in the last 5 minutes of baking. = all problems solved. It was the best banana bread..so moist and fluffy and perfectly sweet!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
Loved this turkey! Mostly I loved how simple the recipe was and how quickly it cooked! The drippings turned out great and made fantastic gravy. I did add some chopped onion and an apple in the cavities for flavour

Creamed Peas and Onions

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
This dish was a perfect side dish for Christmas Dinner. At the suggestion of other reviewers, I used canned peas instead of frozen ones and I also used fresh pearl onions - am very glad I did! I loved the taste and didn't find it bland but, I did add alot of fresh ground pepper and I do understand how some may feel like it is still missing something. A reviewer had mentioned adding nutmeg, I think I may try that next time.

Rosemary Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
This turkey turned out excellent! I did brine it the night before as per many of your suggestions. I'm glad I did because I used some leftover to make a turkey stew and the meat was still tender!

Definitely better than delivery! I found that the recipe as is was a little bland so the second time around I added canned pineapple, cashews, frozen green peas and salt. Delish!

Marrakesh Vegetable Curry

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This is one of my favorite dishes to make. It is super healthy and honestly delicious. I like spicey so I always double the spices (except for the curry) remeber to add about 1 tsp. of fresh ginger as it's missing from the ingredient list. I serve it with basmati rice and naan bread. For those who can't have a meal without meat, add a side of chicken tandoori skewers for the perfect dinner!

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
I gave these cupcakes 5/5 because they were fabulous but, the flavour is not red velvet. I read several reviews befor making these and decided to make adjustments right away. I made buttermilk - 1/2 cup milk & 1 1/2 tsp. white vinegar, used 1/4 cup more sugar and a 1/4 cup less flour and 3/4 butter & 1/4 shortening because I ran out of butter. Not sure if the original recipe would've tasted much different but the last thing I wanted was dry cupcakes. These cupcakes were so moist, perfectly sweet and just delicious! The icing was also amazing. I made them for Easter and everybody loved them! Recipe made 36 cupcakes and there was just enough icing.

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I stuck to the recipe 100% other than cutting it down to make 6 biscuits instead of 12...Turned out amazing! Perfect! These biscuits are perfectly light and fluffy. I may try with 1/2 shortening, 1/2 butter next time just to try but, I didn't find the recipe as is bland at all. Thanks for this recipe!

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
I made a few changes to this recipe after reading the reviews. In addition to cinnamon, I added ground cloves, nutmeg, all spice and ginger spice (about 1 teaspoon each). This added pleasantly to the flavour but, I'd actually double the amounts next time for even more flavour. Also used cream cheese icing on top instead of the filing. Good recipe overall but, definitely needs some tweeking!

Whole Wheat Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2012
I've tried several whole wheat pancake recipes, often with poor results - too doughy, too rubbery etc. but these turn out nice and fluffy, like regular pancakes only much healthier! I use frozen blueberries which is fine, just make sure to take them out of the freezer and let them thaw while you're making the pancake batter!

Chicken Parmigiana

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2012
This was a simple recipe that made a good meal. My boyfriend really like it and I thought it was ok. I added onion powder, fresh pepper, thyme, dried basil and some italian sesoning to the bread crumbs as well as lots of parmesan. I think next time I will double up on the spices and maybe add some cayenne or pepper flakes. It was good, just a bit too salty and bland for my taste.

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
Turned out exactly how I had imagined! I omitted celery and used sliced white bread. I used exactly the amount of brother called for and thought the consistency was perfect - not too moist, not too dry.

I happened to have all the ingredients already except for apple cider so, I used apple juice and extra water instead. I also added a chili pepper for good measure. Delish!
