Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: May 15, 2013
Actually 4.5 stars. This is a nice soft bread pudding but I like it a little firmer so I'll add another egg next time. This has great flavor and IMHO doesn't need the sauce, which I ended up not making. I plumped the raisins first and sautéed the apples in the butter as suggested by another reviewer.

Roast Beef cooked in Pasta Sauce The Italian Way.

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
This recipe needs to be kitchen approved. It is wonderful. I've been looking for something that stands up to my creamy soft polenta and this is it. So rich and delicious. Hubby asked for mushrooms in it next time and I'll try that; otherwise it is perfect. I served it with steamed zucchini and soft cheesy polenta. TY manella.

Even better the next day. Also...freezes well. I keep some on hand in case I have unexpected dinner guests.

KISS Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2013
A big FIVE from hubs. He absolutely loved it. I used seedless blackberry jam because I had it and Jack Daniels Original BBQ sauce. 20 minutes at 400 was perfect in my oven. I think you could make this with any jam or preserves you like. In fact the photo looks like the photographer used apricot or peach jam.

Mom's Applesauce Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
It's too bad you can't review a recipe that you tweaked without having to give it stars. I was determined to make this recipe work using Bisquick since I don't keep pancake mix in the pantry. I made them as stated BUT only used 1 cup of Bisquick and let the batter stand 5 minutes before I tried to cook them. The batter was perfect in consistency but I found I had trouble not burning them and they didn't puff up much. I ended up wasting most of the batter until I realized that "low and slow" worked. If I ever have any pancake mix in the house, I'll give them another try.

Beef Peach Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
To quote a dear friend "Who'd a thunk it?" Peaches on Meatloaf!!! I made it as written except used a 10" deep dish pie pan so the grease would have someplace to go. Hubby loved it; it was just a bit sweet for me. It won't replace our usual meatloaf but I'll make it again and I think I'll sub chili sauce for the ketchup.

Ida's Lemon Mousse

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2012
I am so glad that I didn't let the reviews that stated that this was too, sweet, tart, lemony deter me. And I'm so glad that I made it a day early. The day I made it, it WAS to sweet, tart, lemony!! But by the next day all the flavors had magically smoothed out and it was delicious. I served it in pretty martini glasses with a dollop of Cool Whip for Christmas dinner dessert.

Fruit and Fibre Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2012
The submitter has altered this recipe so often since I made it in it's original form, that I can't properly review it. Overall it was pretty good and worth a try with the changes. I'll get back to it after the holidays.

Classic Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2012
I tried this more for method rather than flavor and it scores a big ole 5 in both areas. No saffron in the house so omitted that and omitted the salt. Will add a little salt next time. It was perfect after the 10 minute standing time. Next time I think I'll add a little garlic and jus a small squeeze of lemon juice. You have to try this.

Chicken Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2012
Just what I was looking for. I halved the recipe, used some left over boneless, skinless thighs, 1 can of cream of celery soup, and subbed buttered seasoned bread crumbs for the crackers. Very yummy on a cloudy day. Pure comfort food. I'll be making this often.

Black Friday Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
I really liked this but the rest of the family, not so much. They didn't like the green beans. They would have preferred if the green beans had been served on the side. Easy enough to do next time. I did switch the dressing and the mashed potatoes as suggested by others. Thanks for the recipe.

Grandma Rita's Soft Butter Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2012
I did a practice run with these rolls last night and they have got to be the easiest rolls I have ever made. I used my bread machine on the dough cycye, When that was complete I let the dough rest for 10 minutes, shaped the rolls, let rise for 30 minutes and baked for 15 minutes. Kitchen goddesses must have been on my side because all the amounts and timings were perfect. I put the ones we didn't eat into a plastic bag and they are even better this morning. Thanks for the recipe Lela and all the buzzers who helped.

Pumpkin Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2012
I made this as written except used pumpkin pie spice instead of all the spices called for. At the end of 30 minutes, I tasted it to adjust the spices and found it way too sweet. I "fixed" it by adding a 15 oz can of pumpkin puree and additional pumpkin pie spice and cooked It an additional 30 minutes. The sweetness level is perfect.

Isaac's Juicy Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
This was waaay better than I thought it would be The only change I made was to sprinkle dry ranch dressing mix and garlic salt in with the eggs. The thighs were rather small so took only 45 minutes. Thanks for the recipe.

Carrot Pineapple Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
I was craving carrot cake but was out of several items called for in my recipe (brown sugar, nuts, coconut, raisins) so, using the ingredient search feature, I found this. It made 16 nice sized cupcakes, very moist and tasty. I did not need the milk in the frosting. Next time I think I'll up the cinnamon a little and only make 3/4 recipe of frosting, because there is so much left over. What to do, what to do with the left over frosting And not a naked graham cracker in the house.

New York Pushcart Onions (For Hot Dogs)

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2012
Since I have no point of reference it's hard to rate this recipe. So I have no idea how this compares to the real deal. I made it exactly as written except omitted the bell pepper as I didn't have one. This wasn't bad but nothing special. I think I'll stick to mustard and relish. I made this for the Recipe Group.

Poor Man's Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2012
Wow is this rich. It took 55 minutes in the oven which was too long for the frozen crust I used, but the filling was great if a little too sweet. I'm going to try this again with a more substantial crust and a little less sugar.

Savory Onion Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2012
Oh my goodness---so good and even better the next day. I doubled the onions, added some Italian seasoning, replaced the cheddar that was stirred into the batter with Parm and sprinkled shredded Mozz on the top about 10 min before it was done. It was perfectly done in 20 min. Even better than Red Lobster's Cheddar Bay Biscuits. I will serve this with our Christmas Day Scampi dinner.

Miracle Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
I chose this recipe more for the method than the ingredients. I soaked the noodles for 15 minutes as suggested and they weren't done enough IMHO. Also not much flavor but I think this can be pumped up easily. I plan to try it again with some small Italian meatballs and and boiling the noodles before hand. Otherwise it was sure easy and smelled good while it was cooking.

Roast Chicken with Rosemary

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2012
So easy and the drippings made great gravy. I had a 6 lb clicken that I roasted on a rack for 2 hours at convection 325 and let it stand 30 minutes. It was perfect. I put the chicken innards (less the liver) and chopped carrots, celery & onions in the roasting pan to flavor the drippings as the chicken roasted.
