Taco Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2014
Just OK. I think it depends on the brand of taco seasoning you use. I'll try it again with a different brand because of the easy preparation.

Beefaroni

Reviewed: May 22, 2014
I knew this would be bland just by reading the recipe. I added chopped onion that I browned with the beef and I subbed a can of petite cut tomatoes with roasted garlic and olive oil for one can of tomato sauce......still bland. The next day I added some corn and black olives. A little better, but needs major tweaking. My kids would have loved this when they were toddlers.

Meatball Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2014
I added some zucchini and used Italian seasoning instead of the individual herbs. Next time I will up the veggies and add a small chopped onion. This is a very good basic meatball SOUP recipe.

Doughnut Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2013
This wasn't bad but a waste of perfectly good stale donuts. To freshen up stale donuts, zap them for 10 seconds on high.

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2013
Taste-wise a 5. Way too rich for for some of my guests but overall a big hit. It makes a ton. I used fun sized Butterfingers.

Christmas Cinnamon Pears

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2013
Wonderful. Even better several days later I used Brach's Cinnamon Imperials because I couldn't find official "Red Hots". This will be on the Christmas breakfast menu.

Chex® Muddy Buddies®

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2013
Easy Peasy. I make it every year for the holidays. The only tweak I make is to use only 8 cups of cereal and a little less powdered sugar which makes it a bit muddier.

Streusel-Topped Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
This review is for the streusel topping ONLY. I made the usual Libby's recipe and added the streusel. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie, but this topping changed all that. DH, who is a pumpkin pie purest, loved it also.

Impossible Coconut Pie I

This took about 50 minutes in my oven. I made it as written except used 1tsp vanilla and 1 tsp almond extract. YUMMERS!!! Oh and I used all Splenda with very good results

Berdean's Cube Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2013
The cube steaks were perfectly tender in 60 minutes I added sliced onions and used chicken Better Than Bullion because I had it. Very reminiscent of my mom's cube steak. Served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Didn't use milk for the gravy; just added corn starch to thicken the pan juices. I think the complaints of meat turning out too dry and water boiling away can be easily corrected by turning the heat down; start checking for tenderness in an hour.

Slow-Roasted Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2013
I followed the steps exactly and it came out perfectly using the probe that came with the stove 13 years ago, that I've never used. Thanks to Linda (LMT) for the excellent directions for using said probe. Thanks bd, you've got a real winner here.

Chinese Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2013
A lot of ingredients for not much flavor. I used garlic powder instead of garlic salt and used only 1 tsp black pepper otherwise followed directions exactly. I might try again, using less water

Shredded Beef Chimichangas

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2013
5 stars for method. 2 stars for flavor. The beef really needs some help. Next time I'll add onions, oregano, bay leaf and some diced green chiis. DH loved it as is. Served with sour cream, lettuce, salsa and guacamole.

Split Pea Soup without Pork

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2013
1 point for ease of preparation. 1 point for liquid to pea ratio. 0 points for flavor. There are a lot of more flavorful split pea soup recipes on AR. I made it exactly as stated.

7-Up® Biscuits

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2013
These are great **IF** made correctly. Do NOT put the melted butter into the batter. Put it in the bottom if the baking pan and put the formed biscuits on top. AND...only use 1/2 cup soda. I used diet Squirt because I had it.

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2013
This was the first time making sausage gravy and it was delicious. I used Jimmy Dean sage sausage because it's what was on hand. It was even better 2 days later. This was a trial run for my soon to be DIL and I can't wait to serve it to her. Served with 7 Up Biscuits from this site.

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2013
This has been in my RB for a long time. I halved the recipe (which fit nicely in an 8x8 pan) and baked the entire 45 minutes. I think some of the low reviews may be due to undertaking. They "looked" done at 30 Minutes but I let them go the full time and am glad I did. Nice crispy tops, soft bottoms in a thick sauce with no artificial taste. I used diet squirt which worked fine, but next time I am going to use Trader Joe's flash pasteurized apple juice. I wouldn't hesitate to serve this to company. Also no need to peel the apples. Thanks for the recipe.

Margarita Cake with Key Lime Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2013
Everyone but me loved this cake. I made it into cupcakes exactly as written and they were perfectly done in 18 minutes. I added extra lemon zest to the frosting because you can never have too much lemon. My only complaint was the texture of the cake. It was just "off", kinda gummy even though fully baked. But no one but me seemed to notice. So 3 stars from me and 5 stars from everyone else.

Finally, A Perfect Fried Chicken Recipe

Reviewed: May 19, 2013
A huge disappointment. The chicken itself was OK but the breading stuck to the bottom of the pan when I turned IIt and what remained was not very flavorful. If you're looking for the perfect fried chicken, this is not it. My quest continues.
