Party Punch VI

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2013
Just what I expected, but boy is this sweet! Much too sweet for my taste, but it fit the bill for my daughter's 11th birthday party. I froze Hawaiian Punch in a bundt pan and floated that with the sherbert. Just what I was looking for, but be prepared for sweetness with this one!

Hot Spiced Cranberry Cider

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2013
Excellent drink for a gathering on a blustery day! Used orange wedge instead of lemon, let simmer in crock pot. Lots of compliments on this one!

Alabama Fire Crackers

Didn't use as much oil, and these turned out great. Shared them with a large group we camped with and they were a hit. Will make again. Thanks!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2012
I would give this 5 stars, but since I added one ingredient, I'd have to bet this is only a 4 "as is." I added a handful of whole, peeled garlic cloves (probably 15-20 cloves) and it was perfect! My husband has never even liked Brussels sprouts and I caught him taking seconds and then putting the left overs in his container for lunch! Kids loved them too, though they have even liked them steamed. I will make this again, but will always add the garlic. Thanks!

Blue Cheese Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
Made this recipe exactly as is. Burgers were very tasty. Even coaxed my 10-year old daughter who usually eats only veggie burgers to try one and she loved it too. Next time I will add more blue cheese than the recipe called for to make these go from 4 stars to 5. Another reviewer mentioned adding cooked and crumbled bacon to the mixture and I think that would really compliment the flavor. Thanks!

Corned Beef Hash

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
Just the recipe I was looking for! Used leftover corned beef from the slow-cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe on this site and used red potatoes. Next time will try yukon gold potatoes and cabbage to mimic a recipe from a favorite local breakfast place. Kids liked it so much I went and bought two more corned beef briskest to out in the freezer. A new favorite in our house. Thanks!

Idaho-Style Finger Steaks

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
These were a big hit with my family. Some ate them with ranch, some with barbecue sauce. Either way, they were great. Thanks for the recipe!

Slow-Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
Just the slow-cooker recipe I was looking for! Omitted the onions, and added a spoonful of beef billion to the water for extra flavor. Used Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Now I've got corned beef hash (also from allrecipes) in the breakfast pan. Thanks for the recipe!

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
Very tasty! Only 4 stars since I changed the oregano to dried cilantro instead and used cooked chicken thighs rather than raw breasts. A new family favorite. Thanks!

Broccoli Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
With a few modifications, this is a five star dish. Added sour cream and shredded mexican cheese blend to the soup mixture- only had cream of chicken on hand. Omitted the cheese from the top. Served over rice- was a big hit with the family- everyone had seconds! great way to use leftover rotisserie chicken.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Made recipe as directed and it was tasty, yet the pork chops were a bit dry. They were super tender, however, which is a nice switch from grilled pork chops which can be tough. As a family we decided that a little dry is preferable to tough. Thanks for the recipe; will make again!

Cherry Cobbler I

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly. It was a bit sweet for our tastes- next time I'll cut the sugar down- especially if we have such wonderful Oregon cherries again! Will also make this with blueberries here in a few weeks. Thanks!

Easy Slow Cooker Carne Guisada

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly, but I did cut the meat chunks smaller to be more kid-friendly. This is definitely a soupy, stew-like meal. Might be good with hominy added, and carrots would be a nice addition too. Served this with crusty french bread. Can't wait for lunch leftovers today! Thanks for the recipe!

Cajun Seafood Pasta

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
Came across this recipe when searching for something to do with the scallops and shrimp in my freezer. This recipe hit the spot! A few modifications (out of necessity for what I had on hand): Monterey Jack instead of Swiss, all dried herbs instead of fresh, used minimal pepper to satisfy the kids, and I added a bit of garlic while sauteing the seafood before adding it to the sauce when the sauce was ready. Next time I will try to have fresh parsley on hand and will definitely try with Swiss, though the Jack cheese was great. This was very rich, so perhaps half and half would be just as good, but not so rich. Thanks for the inspiration!

Cabbage and Noodles

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
This was a hit with the entire family! I did drain off the bacon grease and left a tablespoon or so in the pot before adding the onion. With the onion I added some minced garlic. I poured in a tiny bit more of the drained bacon grease when I added the cabbage. I like spicy food, and this was perfect with some Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce. Thanks for the recipe!

Sausage Smothered in Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
We had leftover red cabbage from fish tacos so I came here looking for something to do with it. Based on other reviews, I decreased the salt significantly, but stuck to the recipe otherwise. I used a crisp Granny Smith apple which added just the right amount of tart/ tangy flavor to the dish. My 4 and 7-year-old daughters thought it was "ok", but my husband and I liked it. Served it with mashed potatoes and asparagus and of course, Sriracha hot sauce on the side. We eat many meals with Sriracha ;-) Thanks for the recipe!

Shrimp and Feta Cheese Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
Made this tonight for the first time. Since I was trying to use ingredients I had on hand, I used Rigatoni instead of Linguine and used two cans of diced tomatoes instead of fresh. As with other reviewers, I used around 1/2 cup wine. The taste was GREAT, but it is definitely chunky with the tomatoes. I will definitely make this again, but perhaps blend half of the tomatoes first.

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

These were great, but to make them more healthy I used Olive Oil in place of the margarine and cooked until very crunchy. Perfect consistency and taste!

We have been loving this recipe! We did bake it without the foil for the last half as we like a crunchy top. Will make again and again!
