About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, stir fries, pasta dishes, curries, vegetarian cuisine, fried rice, and just about anything that has curry powder in it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking kosher for Passover cakes with my mother the day before the holiday.
My cooking triumphs
They usually come from me playing around with recipes. One of my greatest was a curry I made with potatoes, broccoli, onions, bell peppers, snap peas, eggplant, and garlic.

Spinach Basil Pesto
This was a very tasty pesto and a great way to get my boyfriend to eat spinach. I only rated it a 4/5 because the texture was too clumpy and kept separating from the oil, which would have been great if we wanted pesto on sandwiches or to serve on toasted baguette as a dip, but used it as a sauce for gnocchi. Next time I will try less oil and add cream to get the desired consistency. Also, we topped with feta cheese, which really drove the flavor party home.

Beer Simmered Beans
This was a pretty good recipe with just some minor tweaks. A lot of reviewers mentioned that the beer either made the beans taste bitter or tasteless, so I instead used Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider. The cider gave the beans a very nice sweetness. I sauteed the onions with a bit of olive oil before adding them to the beans; threw in diced half yellow and red bell peppers, jalapenos, and garlic when the onions became translucent. After a couple of minutes, I combined all the ingredients in a pot and simmered as instructed.

Creamy Hot Cocoa
I made this recipe for my father and brother the other day to accompany a batch of snickerdoodles and they absolutely loved it. I ended up reducing the sugar from 3/4 cup to 1/2 cup like many reviewers suggested and it is just the right sweetness that way. I also did not have half and half, so I ended up not adding anything at the end and I had no problems.
