I am a busy mom of five kids and grandma to one! I am married to my best friend and sidekick. Soon we will be empty nesters, beginning a new phase of adventures.
I was raised vegetarian and began eating meat regularly in my early twenties. Although I still serve vegetarian meals at home about half the time, I can say I will never give up eating meat by choice!
Cooking for me is an escape. I love feeding my people! My challenge in the near future will be learning how to downsize our meals!
Being creative is essential for me. I grew up with artist parents and have followed in their footsteps. I have designed in the accessories industry for the last twenty years. Cooking is a wonderful way to use your creativity AND get an important job done for the family. My hope is for my children to look back on their life and remember how special and important our mealtimes were together. My wish is that they value mealtimes and continue to make it a priority in their families.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father is Italian. My grandparents came here from Italy and settled in the Santa Clara/San Jose area as wine makers and farmers. My great grandma was renowned for her authentic old home recipes and was known to host the entire neighborhood for meals on weekends. I would say the tradition of always having room for "one more" at the table is most appreciated by our family. We are always sure to make great grandmas recipes on Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter where of course, there is always room for more!
My cooking triumphs
I would have to say that my overall triumph would be having children with open minds to a wide variety of foods and ethnic styles of cooking. It may be because I have a short attention span! I'm always searching for a new eating experience whether I am at home or on the road. My 14 month old grandson loves grandmas spiciest dishes!
