Red, White, and Blue-Misu

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2014
This is an excellent recipe as others have said. However, I agree with other reviewers that it requires a couple of tweaks to make it truly outstanding. First of all, you really should use fresh fruit, not frozen. Also, you need sugar and some type of flavoring both for the berry mixture and the cream mixture. Otherwise, it really is quite bland. I found Grand Marnier was the perfect flavor to complement the berries, much better than coffee liqueur would be. With those changes, it was a hit both times I've made it so far. And it's beautiful to look at too, bonus!

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2011
This soup is a definite keeper. It's a nice change from the usual brothy version. The addition of the butter and flour makes it a very rich but not overpowering texture and taste. My family loved it! You do have to use butter, though, not margarine.

Janet's Famous Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
This recipe is a keeper. I used yogurt instead of sour cream simply because that is what I had, ditto walnuts instead of pecans. It was delicious. Sprinkled some extra nuts and cinnamon/sugar on top before baking. A definite hit!

Shrimp Gazpacho

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2010
This is outstanding. I did add a bit of garlic but otherwise didn't stray from the recipe. I thought I made more than I would need but NOOOOOO...it's gone and I want to make another batch right away. Just make certain you use the freshest of ingredients.

Zucchini Frittata

Delicious and so easy. The zucchini gives it a wonderful taste. Served with fresh sliced tomatoes on the side. A real keeper. Didn't change a thing.

Tangy Pear and Blue Cheese Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
You can't lose with the taste combo of pears and blue cheese. Awesome salad. Make sure you toast the walnuts because it makes a big difference. The only change I would suggest is to use thinly sliced red onion instead of raspberries. You need a complement to the sweetness.

Three Bean Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
This is really a five bean salad because I count the green beans and wax beans as beans too. I love it and it is requested every summer at our beach house getaway. I do make a few adjustments. I prefer romano beans to the black beans for this particular salad. Also, I find the sweet white onions, thinly sliced and slivered, much better than the reds. With those adjustments, for me and my large extended family, it is the absolute PERFECT bean salad. PS - You have to use sugar unless you have people who can't eat it. Sugar subs give it a funny taste.

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly and it is excellent. However, I do agree with cutting down the pepper a bit. Also, the roasting time given is not sufficient to get the vegetable done. I t results in what one reviewer called crunchy soup. So roast longer. Other than that, it's a very tasty soup with crusty buns on a cold fall day!

Chocolate Orange Fondue

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
Fantastic fondue. I served it at my book club meeting with many different types of fruit and some shortbread. I used the darkest chocolate I could find (Lindt 85% cocoa). The combination of the sweet fruit and the orange/bitter of the dark chocolate was outstanding. For me, milk chocolate would have ruined this recipe. I wouldn't change a thing. As an added benefit, the darker the chocolate, the better it is for you health-wise.

Banana Nut Bread II

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
I don't think I would use the bread machine for this next time. It wasn't done and I had to take it out and finish it in the regular oven anyway. Tasted great though, once it was done.

Chocolate Zucchini Bread II

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
This is an incredible loaf. My sons saw me putting the shredded zuccnini in it and vowed they weren't going to eat any, until they tasted it. I took the second loaf to work to share with colleagues. That lasted about as long as it took to slice it. Definitely a keeper for me. The only thing I changed was that I used half all purpose flour and half whole wheat flour.

Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
Very tasty but also very rich. I skimmed as much of the grease off of the top of the sauce as I could before mixing in the flour. And I made rice instead of mashed potato to serve it over. Good comfort food to have once in a while but if you're a healthy foods, lean meats person, you'll want to steer clear of this one.

Indian Style Sheekh Kabab

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
Great recipe. I left out the mint because my husband hates it. I did make a sauce with yogurt, garlic, chopped onions and chopped cilantro that really added to the dish, I thought. Love the flavours. Did some grilled eggplant and basmati rice and pitas on the side. Great dinner. A little different from the usual! I'd definitely make it again.

Easy Paella

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2007
This recipe is not as involved as the recipe seems. It is actually quite easy. And it's outstanding. I got rave reviews and will definitely make it again. I arranged it in a large flat paella dish and put steamed snap peas around the outer edge. Pretty as well as delicious!

This was fabulous. I didn't have enough for everyone because I didn't realize it would be that popular. I'm making it again tonight for the ones who lost out last night! Great recipe.

Sesame Tilapia

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2007
Very, very nice recipe. We love the subtle flavor that sesame oil gives. A couple of things: I used that lemon pepper shake that you can buy for seafood rather than the Italian seasoning which I thought would clash with the sesame. Worked wonderfully. Also, I sprinkled toasted sesame seeds on the top. Be careful not to overcook and you've got a 5 star recipe!

Roast Leg of Lamb with Rosemary

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
I'll never make roast lamb any other way from now on. This recipe was amazingly delicious. I had guests for dinner and they all proclaimed it the best lamb they had ever had. Serve with those little red potatoes, cut in half and roasted.

Easy Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2006
Excellent recipe. The pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender. I substitued greem onions for shallots since I didn't have any and I omitted the beans because I just didn't want beans in the sauce. That didn't affect it at all. Will definitely make this again, perhaps next in the slow cooker.
