Chef John's Crab Cakes

This recipe is awesome & the video is helpful! Chef John's recommendation to only use fresh crab is spot on - it makes a world of difference! I didn't wait the full hour before forming the cakes, and I used a homemade version of "old bay"seasoning from a recipe on this website (so I could avoid paprika due to an allergy) , but those were my only deviations from the recipe. My husband raved about these, so thank you Chef John!

Owen's BBQ Chicken

The marinade is very tomato-ee and acidic -- too much so for my family's tastes. It needs something to balance the acidity, especially for people who have issues with acidic foods.

Chef John's Macaroni and Cheese

Another awesome dish by Chef John! I left out the cayenne per my family's tastes, and didn't quite have enough real cheese, so added some cheese food, ie Velveeta (I know, the horror of it all), and it turned out wonderful! The panko bread crumbs are SO good - definitely worth looking for them. Unlike a previous reviewer, I thought the thyme tasted good - there's not much in there, but it adds a light extra layer of flavor.

Easy French Onion Soup for Guests

Excellent french onion soup! Not too heavy nor too salty, as some restaurant versions are. I didn't have sherry handy, so used what I had - red wine vinegar & brandy. Still turned out fantastic! Thanks Chef John!

Famous Pork Chops

Yummy and easy! I used only 2 eggs, half the butter, pan-seared before baking, and baked for about 30 minutes. I served with Chef John's Mushroom Gravy on the side. Easy recipe to adjust to your family's tastes.

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Absolutely awesome! For my family, I omit the red pepper, use low-sodium broth, drain as much grease as possible (maybe leave a tbsp to saute the onions/garlic), & use condensed milk instead of cream. Still very yummy. Instead of fresh spinach, I sometimes use swiss chard, kale, or even frozen chopped spinach in a pinch.
