About this Cook
I have a beautiful 8 year old daughter, an 11 year old stepson and a 2 year old son. My husband has been in the United States Air Force for over 15 years, and I am a proud military wife!! My husband is by the far the best cook I know (just don't tell my mother I said that). His recipes are to die for but he won't share the recipes, even with me! I was born and raised in Arizona but my parents are both from NY originally - Queens and Brooklyn - and I spent a lot of time in NY growing up. My mother was raised in a Jewish/Italian neighborhood and learned how to cook great Italian dishes from people who came from the old country. She passed a lot of those lessons down to me. I still go back to NY whenever I can. My brother lives in NJ now and whenever I visit, I eat my way through town. There is nothing like pizza, Chinese food and baked goods from the east coast!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about everything! I have the "staple" recipes that are made on a regular basis, like baked ziti, meatloaf, casseroles, etc., but I get a huge kick out of trying new recipes. I am on Allrecipes several times a day (my husband says I'm an addict!) and you can usually catch me in the cookbook aisle of the bookstore. I love to experiment and see which recipes are "approved" by my husband and kids. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My love of cooking comes from my mother. When I was young, my mother used to throw big dinner parties and would cook everything herself. I remember being in the kitchen with her and helping her prepare...even if it was just mixing something it was fun for me. My mother and I use any holiday as an excuse to cook. Our two favorites are of course Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our menu consists of: Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Candied Yams, Green Bean Casserole, Corn Tomolita from Chevy's (a sweet corn side dish), cheesecake and 7-up cake. Yummy!
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I try something new and I get smiles and empty plates from my husband and the kids!
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make my mother a sponge cake when I was 11. Let's just say that it more closely resembled a kitchen sponge than a cake!

Light Oat Bread
We really enjoyed this bread. It's light and soft on the inside, with a great crunchy crust on the outside. I used old fashioned oats, since it didn't specify. I followed the recipe with no changes.

One Pan Campfire Chili Pie
This was so, so good!! My 10-year old picky eater, who declared at the supermarket while I was shopping for this that she was "not going to eat it" because "chili is gross" and "I can't make her eat it". Well, I made her try it (because that's how I roll), and low and behold, she loved it! And it only took 15 minutes to make and used one pan!! I have to admit I was a tad skeptical about using the Barilla Pronto noodles. I was afraid the noodles wouldn't cook all the way through and would be semi-hard, but they cooked perfectly. I used a can of Dennison Chili Con Carne with beans and I ate almost two helpings myself. My husband was eating it out of the pan.

Sweet Potato Casserole I
This was ok. It was way too sweet - and I love things sweet. I would cut down on the sugar in the future.
