I love to try new ways to prepare food. My Mum is a great cook who introduced us to a wide range of foods at a young age (I loved escargots when I was 5!).

Pasta dishes, fruit pies, cheesecake, cookies, hamburgers, summery salads, sandwiches, jam, relish . . . I'll stop now because this could get lengthy.

My Grannie Bain taught me how to make pastry when I was about 12 years old. She would say, "You can tell it's right by the feel of it." You can't get that knowledge from a written recipe.

My cooking tragedies
This is a good one. A lovely pot of giblet stock simmered on my stove on Christmas day, destined for the roasting pan to make gravy. When it was time, I must have been a bit frazzled. I grabbed a strainer and the pot full of stock, with the intention of straining the liquid into the roasting pan and leaving behind the giblets, neck, and veggies. Instead, I walked to the sink, poured the liquid through the strainer and straight down the drain. I could have died.

Hot Greek Salad
This was a nice change to a traditional cold salad. I made the recipe to the letter and we enjoyed it on this warm late spring evening, except now I wish I had picked up a nice loaf of fresh bread to go with it. As a personal preference, I would omit the black olives next time because both of us picked around them. I might enjoy some variety of pickled olives with this dish instead. Overall, we enjoyed this salad. Thanks for the recipe!

Tasty Pecan Pepper Appetizer
This recipe sounded interesting, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I adjusted the serving size to 5 servings because pecans are so expensive up here and I wanted to try the recipe out before making a giant batch. I thought that the flavour of old cheddar cheese might be more apparent, but it wasn't. I make my own jalapeño pepper jelly so I used that instead of buying a jar of raspberry jalapeño jelly. I found that the taste improved after it sat in the fridge for 24 hours, but I wasn't compelled to eat it all up. Maybe if the cheese was doubled, or replaced with a very sharp cheddar, it might have a fuller flavour.

Tuna and Veggie Cucumber Boats
It was fine, and definitely healthy, just a bit bland for me. I might try it with 1/4 cup of Miracle Whip instead of the greek yogurt and mayo.The 'Boats' in the title inspired me to cut the cucumber into 1/2" slices after I filled with the tuna, and make little 'boat' appetizers. I cut a small slice off the bottom so they wouldn't wobble. I think they're fun, and kids would like the little bite-size pieces. Not a bad recipe, I just think it needs a little tweak.
