About this Cook
I love to try new ways to prepare food. My Mum is a great cook who introduced us to a wide range of foods at a young age (I loved escargots when I was 5!).
My favorite things to cook
Pasta dishes, fruit pies, cheesecake, cookies, hamburgers, summery salads, sandwiches, jam, relish . . . I'll stop now because this could get lengthy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grannie Bain taught me how to make pastry when I was about 12 years old. She would say, "You can tell it's right by the feel of it." You can't get that knowledge from a written recipe.

My cooking tragedies
This is a good one. A lovely pot of giblet stock simmered on my stove on Christmas day, destined for the roasting pan to make gravy. When it was time, I must have been a bit frazzled. I grabbed a strainer and the pot full of stock, with the intention of straining the liquid into the roasting pan and leaving behind the giblets, neck, and veggies. Instead, I walked to the sink, poured the liquid through the strainer and straight down the drain. I could have died.

Grandma Peggy's Lemon Ice
Divine! It has a nice 'icy' texture with a creamy taste. The lemon and sugar are perfectly balanced, not too sweet and just the right amount of tang. I zested all of the lemons that I used for the juice and it was just right. I tasted the mixture before I put it in the freezer, and I could have drank the whole thing on the spot. Plus, it couldn't be easier. Thanks for the recipe!

Apple-Sage Pork Chops
This is what I wanted for dinner last night, but I didn't want to go to the grocery store so I used what I had on hand: bone-in butt chops and adjusted the cooking time accordingly; not enough sage so I topped it up with poultry seasoning; no thyme so I used oregano; no apple juice so I used 1/4 cup of Wellesley Apple Syrup mixed with 1/4 cup of Growers Apple Cider cooler. I added all other ingredients as written. These weren't major differences so I don't think the result was too far off the original, and it was absolutely delicious! Easy too. I will definitely make this again. Apples were made for pork chops.

Barbeque Chicken Grilled Pizza
This is a genius idea! I made the recipe as written, except we cooked it on a perforated bbq pan instead of directly on the grill. That way I was able to take the pan back to the kitchen to add the remaining ingredients instead of at the barbecue. Oh, one more change - I caramelized a yellow onion and added that on top of the other ingredients. We loved it, and can't wait to try this again and mix it up a bit! Thanks so much for the recipe!
