Caramelized Turnips

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2012
These were fantastic! Had some turnips in my CSA box and thought I'd try my hand at cooking them for the first time. I'm so glad I tried this recipe instead of hiding them away in a soup! I substituted brown sugar for the white, but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. So good. I will be trying this for other root veggies and may add onion next time. Thanks to Lynn for sharing the recipe!

Baked Kale Chips

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
Delicious, healthy, and super simple! I sprayed mine with a butter flavored cooking spray rather than drizzling them with olive oil because it just seemed easier. Sprinkled with sea salt. Mine baked for about 11 minutes. I've been munching on them since they came out of the oven. They were by far my favorite part of dinner.

Fabulous Cilantro Pesto

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
This recipe did NOT go over at my house. My boyfriend, said "nope," and put it down. I've never had him refuse to finish a meal. I think the problem was the garlic. I love garlic, but 5 cloves was way too much and it totally overpowered the dish. If I made this again, which is unlikely because I don't think I could tempt the bf into tasting it again, I would tone the garlic down to 2 cloves.

Grandma's Chicken Chardon

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
This was REALLY good and couldn't be more simple. The chicken was so moist and the mushrooms were ridiculously flavorful after cooking in all those juices. This will be a frequent repeater in my menu planning. My boyfriend ate seconds and is eyeing a third piece, so I think it's safe to say he's OK with that. :) I made no changes - this recipe is PERFECT as-is.

One Pot Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2012
As someone else said, 4 stars for the ease of cooking the noodles in the sauce but 3 stars as written. I tasted the sauce about halfway through and I found it to be lacking in flavor. I ended up throwing in red pepper flakes, some garlic salt (in addition to the garlic powder, but I love garlic), and some ancho chile powder. As you can tell I like things spicy. :) With the added spices, I enjoyed it much more. I would say doctor this up with whatever spices you prefer, but I do think it needs additional flavoring. As-is, it was somewhat bland. I also added some fresh spinach in a minute or so before the onion and mushrooms were done cooking both for color and for added nutritional value. Next time I'll add more - it made for a very pretty dish!

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
Followed the recipe to a "t" and this was delicious. The boyfriend and I both loved it. The sauce was nice and creamy - I do recommend patting both the chicken and artichokes dry to keep it from being watery.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
Great chili. The boyfriend dubbed it "delicious." I halved the recipe because I only had about a lb of ground beef thawed. The only ingredients I didn't have were the tomato sauce (used about 1 3/4 cups) and the seasoning mix (because I accidentally threw in three tablespoons before realizing I meant to halve it :). I didn't have chili seasoning on hand so I subbed in taco seasoning and it was still really tasty. I like my chili on the hotter side so I added some chili powder and red pepper flakes. Good stuff - will definitely make this again!

Scott Hibb's Amazing Whisky Grilled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
These were FANTASTIC. I made these for my South African boyfriend's family, and let me tell you - they KNOW their barbeque. They all RAVED about these. They are amazingly tender - they fall right off the bone. The sauce was fantastic. The only change I made was substituting chili powder for ground red chile pepper, because that's all I had on hand. These are going straight into the regular rotation. My boyfriend said he didn't know if he'd ever make ribs another way again, which speaks volumes as to just how good these were.
